1989 Batman Expanded Motion Picture Score

A friend picked this up for me at Comic Con and I've been listening to it so I thought I'd mention it here for those who don't know about it yet ...

Disc One is the score as composed for the film; Disc Two contains the re-mastered version of the original album plus some bonus tracks.

I've been listening to it all morning and have been thrilled and nostalgic, remembering my childhood movie-going experience with all the big brass and gongs and drums ... and Vicki Vale

Anyway --- has anyone else picked this up?

My friend Dan Goldwasser produced this. I definitely plan on picking this up. I love Elfman's score. It was the first CD/movie score I ever bought.

Listening to this now. Very excited. It's so weird to hear some of these cues for the first time on a solo CD, since I'm so accustomed to hearing them with the film.

I have the original version of this, which is one of the few orchestral soundtracks I've ever bought. I think it's Elfman's best work. The soundtracks are also the only areas where the Burton movies beat the Nolan ones hands-down, IMHO.

I love the score for Burton's Batman. I need to get it on DVD as I just have it on casette tape. I haven't played it in years and it probabyl doesn't even work.

The Flash soundtrack has been out for a while, if I recall correctly. But there's a great deal going on at LaLa Land for both albums if purchased together.

Absolutely loved the Flash theme. I haven't heard it in years, but it was SO good that it's been firmly stuck in my head ever since the series.

Unfortunately the one Elfman score that doesn't hold up well is for Darkman. The theme is okay, but the rest of the score is nothing but a cheesy and generic ripoff of Batman, and feels completely out of place in the movie now.

He dislikes a lot of stuff in the Nolan films. I had to set him straight a few times.

Personally I think both Elfman and Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard are marginal at best with the music.

Burton's got his gothic choir that follows him to every movie

Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard together make the same sounding thing. Both Nolan batman movies and inception are heavy on the bass.

I bought this on cassette in 1989 as soon as I found it in a store. Later that summer I bought the CD and I remember sneaking it into the house as my mom didn't like me buying so much music. My how thing's have changed...
