1976 poster, need help please.......

Hello and Happy New Year to all. I need a little help identifying a 65 X 35 poster I found in the attic of the house I just moved into. I will add it to my small collection regardless of any info I can find out, but would like to know more about it if possible. It is by John Carlance, dated 1976 Paramount Pictures Corporation. I cannot find it ANYWHERE online. Alas, it is not in very good shape, whoever had it was very stupid as not to have protected it from the elements of open air. Logo on corner stamped Dargis Associates Inc. Called them and they said they had just started business that year and could not find any records dating back that far.......so, no help there. Here is a pic of the poster, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance........................................Mike

I can't speak to this particular poster, but the mid 70's was a time when Paramount was licensing Star Trek stuff left and right, and for pretty reasonable rates at the time.

I met the man once.

He was actually an architectural artist (the conceptual paintings you see in new buildings), and did the Enterprise on a whim. It went over well, so he got a small license, and did paintings of things from Franz Joseph's Tech Manual- the Galileo shuttle, Starfleet Headquarters, a destroyer, and a few others. They were quick nice, technically proficient, and reasonably priced. I haven't seen your poster before, which means it was probably a very early or late piece.

It looks cool, very 70's. Clean and simple design. If it were done nowadays, it would have all kinds of clutter in it to impress people. Things like a huge nebula taking up the entire background, and the planet would be covered with lots of volcanoes and other traumatic happenings. The paint job on the ship would be way over the top, kinda like how the original "E" was "restored".

I'm pretty sure it's buried in storage, but essentially, it's a nice big picture of FJ's Starfleet Headquarters, with a scout/destroyer approaching and a Constitution entering one of the spacedock pods. I might be able to do some sort of recreation of it...

My father is John Carlance these were not for any franchise they were in the air and space museum for years. My brother and I have a full set including the door poster if I can get photo of them I will post. Sadly my dad has Alzheimer's so he isn't doing well he was an amazing artist and a magician I can be reached at carlacarlance@gmail.com

I met him at one of the early RoVaCons at Northside High School in Roanoke. He gave me a lot of tips on converting plans to 3-D images that I still use to this day. He was one of the first "real" Star Trek guests to appear at the con, and I came away with a pretty good sized bundle of prints, which sadly haven't survived a half dozen moves well.

I'm sorry to hear about his health issues. Meeting him and talking about his work is one of my earliest fannish memories. All my best to both of you.

It has been a slow decline but he has 2 Star Trek fans
