18yo cleans gun, shoots own penis and testicle

I'll wait for confirmation that he's permanently sterile/incapable of copulation before handing him his Darwin Award.

But, man, how dumb do you have to be to do something like this?

Wow, that's sad. He could end up with so many psychological problems now too, all because of that one accident.

Agreed with Kestra.

I don't think it's hilarious if somebody hurts himself like that. Now I can see how it's funny if somebody has a minor issue because he does something stupid. But we don't know how bad this is. And since we don't I'd prefer to err on the side of caution and not be a jackass.

So let's assume RobMax' assumption that he could end up being sterile (the guy, not RobMax!) is correct:
You guys really think it's funny if a guy can never have kids and has his future family life ruined only because he did something stupid when he was 18 years old (pretty much still a kid himself?)

We all do silly stuff at times. Doesn't mean we "deserve" bad things happening to us. You could say somebody who has no clue how to handle a gun shouldn't be getting one. But your laws just suck then. You need to make sure that a person like that can't even buy one.

I don't want to sound too moralistic but I just think that only reading about shit online makes us lose empathy at times.

Wow, bit vile today, are we?
I'm sure you never did anything stupid in your life. I don't know you but you probably have a perfect, healthy, responsible lifestyle and have always done the right thing.

Like I said it pretty much depends on how bad it is. We're all responsible for the consequences of our actions. But I think it's funny only to a certain degree. Just like I'd laugh about a rich guy losing €1000 due to his own stupidity but I wouldn't laugh about a poor guy losing €1000 due to stupidity.

Well in the US, isn't there a little thing known as the Second Ammenment.

Hey, that's what I meant when I said their laws suck. :p

Ouch, poor bloke. I feel bad for his mate too. Fancy getting arrested because your friend shoots himself in the dick.

I was unclear on that part. Did he tell the police like that day, without leaving the house? Or did he confess later, the police then came to the house to do an investigation, and that's when they found the pot? I just wonder if the guy had any warning that police would be coming this place.

Yet another post to say that I wasn't trying to call people out earlier. But I do think it's sad and I agree with most of Emilia's post. I realize people were probably joking, but saying that someone is too stupid to have children isn't a road I'd ever want to go down.

I bet that his flatmate went to hospital, the police questioned him, then got the truth from him. Upon discovering he used what seems to be an unlicensed gun, they then raided his property unannounced.

That's basically what happened to me when I lived with a total moron.

The second amendment is the backup plan that keeps the government from taking away the other amendments.

You want to call me a jackass for finding ironic humor in someone who gets a gun and shoots himself in his genitals? You can have your opinion.

Young people make all kinds of mistakes, some quite serious, many TOTALLY avoidable. This was one that was totally avoidable. The worst kind of mistake to make, imo. Don't mess with a gun if you don't understand guns. Don't clean a gun if you don't empty the bullets OR put the safety on. Oh, you don't know how to do that? Then find out before you shoot yourself. Google it. Go to a gun store and ask.

And I'm vile? If you want to call me vile for saying that this kid is stupid, and his stupidity may cost him his chance to procreate, and that might not be a bad thing for the overall gene pool? You can have your opinion.

Perfect? I've made TONS of mistakes in my life. I've done MANY stupid things, and will probably do many more. I'll assume most if not all posters here would say the same for themselves.

Healthy and responsible lifestyle? I'm overweight, mostly due to health issues and the meds for them. I don't drink alcohol, never even been drunk. I don't smoke, never have. I try to exercise. Overall, a fairly responsible lifestyle. Can you say the same?

Do the right thing? I TRY to do the right thing. And I sometimes fail. But I haven't yet seriously injured myself or anyone else while doing the right thing or failing to do the right thing. I again assume many, if not most, posters here would say the same for themselves.

And you admit that you DO find it funny to a certain degree. Well, if you think that I'm going to be laughing about this every hour of every day for the rest of my life...it's not THAT funny. As you say, it's funny to a certain degree. Enough to think, idiot, fool, and to post it here. And then to defend those thoughts when name-called for them by someone who agreed that there was some humor in the situation. A tad hypocritical on that part.

Two direct insults. Don't call people "jackass" and "vile" too quickly.
