15 instead of 48

Joe Washington

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
What if 15 of the passengers in the front section of Oceanic 815 survived instead of 48?

Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Sayid, Shannon, Boone, Michael, Walt, Rose, Locke, Hurley, Charlie, Claire, Jin, and Sun

You can include Nikki, Paulo, and Artz to the number if you want. The tailies remain the same. But do you think it would have made the show better if the number of the survivors that Jack led was limited to the main cast that way it wouldn't have a lot of random faceless people walking around to give us the presence of survivors other than the ones I mentioned?

I've wondered the same thing. The only purpose the extras ever served was to slowly get killed off, and finally after the flaming arrow attack last season they're all gone. Jack has never seemed too worried about losing 25+ people, he's only ever been concerned with the main cast. His big Leader Speeches early on made it seem like everyone mattered, but ultimately the extras were pointless. The ones that died completely unceremoniously when Keamy attacked Locke's group in "The Shape of Things to Come" were especially transparent, and no one cared a bit about them after the fact, other than whatever nut wrote the articles about them on Lostpedia. ;)

This season's storyline makes those poor faceless souls seem even more of an afterthought...were they all brought to the island for a reason, too? I remember certain extras from the early season, like the young dude with the beard or the old balding guy or the blonde chick with a tank top...was Jacob looking at their houses in the mirror? :p

I think having it be so many people in the beginning provided some magnitude to it, that there are so few left now. Think about how many island inhabitants there have been spread throughout the show too, most of which are dead now too. Flocke ain't kidding. This has been all out war. Over the century or two of island history, that we've seen, there's been hundreds of deaths

I kind of wish all of the extras had been given random bits of dialogue or had been acknowledged here and there (like Frogurt or the Scott/Steve confusion from early on), at least something to show that the main cast knew they existed and cared a little bit.

I felt that way too, & had it only been the initial crash survivors, it might have been feasible, throughout 6 seasons, even if it had just been giving them all names, & finding a way to have them all introduced, But when all these other groups of people flooded the island, the extras just went insane. Others at the Barracks, the temple, the Dharma stations, on their own, & countless corpses. There's been hundreds of people on that island, just in the past century

Honestly, I think they did a pretty impressive job of introducing many of them, especially the 815 survivors. Lostpedia has compiled a list of fifty-five 815 survivors, who can be identified, from either speaking parts, names mentioned, or notable appearances (Not including the dog, or Jack's dad).

55 people, out of, what I consider to be like 70 or 71 actual 815 survivors. 47 mid-section survivors (Jack's head count of 48 likely included Ethan, & not the dog) 22 Tail section survivors, (I'm uncertain if Libby's head count included Goodwin or not) one pilot, & one newborn. There's also a couple non-canon mid-section survivors from the ABC.com website, who penned an unofficial on island diary

Basically, that's less than 16 survivors of 815, who were left completely unacknowledged. Freaky, that there's only 11 left alive, on the island, that we know are from 815, & two off-island. What a brutal show this has been, & I don't think that brutality is over

Honestly, I groaned during the end of Season 3 when Naomi showed up and then again in Season 4 when the rest of the Freighter people appeared. I was like, "No more people! We have enough people!"

Then I really grew to like Faraday and Charlotte, so I guess it worked out.

I was wondering that. So all of the others(as in other passengers, not Others:lol:) are dead? And Rose and Bernard were transported back to the 70's right? So I am assuming they are now dead after 25 years on the island.

At this point we don't know. Yes, they were transported to the 70s, but we have no idea if they stayed there or not when the nuke went off. It's entirely possible they got transported back to 2007 along with the other Losties.

Dangit. I keep forgetting about them. I wished they'd show up, just so I would stop forgetting. I imagine they are in 2007 now

And if they are, they're probably PISSED!

Not to mention the fact that Vincent is with them. What about him?!

LOL. The writers have acknowledged that Vincent will survive the show. Yay for doggie!

It's hard to say how many people with Flocke are from the 815. I know of 8. Kate, Jin, Sawyer, Sayid, Claire, Cindy, & the kids, Emma & Zack, but FLocke has like almost 20 people with him, & there's like 10 other abducted Tailies, unaccounted for, & some others could feasibly be 815 survivors. No real knowing. The only reason that the Temple Others didn't kill Hurley & Jack, et al, was because Cindy recognized Jack from the plane. None of the other passengers would recognize any of them. I guess Jack should be happy he got that extra bottle of liquor.

BTW, I always thought Jack should hook up with Cindy. They've shown that flirty extra bottle of liquor scene, a few different times. Sawyer can have Kate. Those two crooks were made for each other. lol

Blonde chick with a tank top, Jacob REALLY LIKED looking at her house. :p

They haven't said, but I have no doubt all 3 will reappear

Actually the writers have said we'll see vincent again.

That being said, I also believe we'll see Rose and Bernard one last time. However, if we don't, we did get some nice closure with them in the Season 5 finale so I wouldn't be devastated if we've already seen the last of those 2. They have each other and they're truly happy which is more than most people can claim.
