#1 writer 4 each show

Who was the best writer for TOS, TNG, DS9,Voyager, and yes, even Enterprise...has to be the writer whom you thought put out more quality than the others..and it can not be a ONE TIME person...at least 4 or more writing credits to be qualified...

Rob

TOS: Gene L. Coon

TNG: Ronald D. Moore

DS9: Ira Steven Behr

Voyager: Joe Menosky

Enterprise: Mike Sussman

But it's hard to pick just one because there are so many people involved in the writing process. You don't really know who is responsible for what. And often, people who write don't even get credited for the writing.

I'd pretty much go along along with Norrin Radd's choices. There's a lot of writers to choose from for DS9, but I suppose ISB had the biggest influence over all.

For Enterprise, I'm more torn between Phyllis Strong (who despite the odd clanger, did give us Damage, which is my favourite episode), or Manny Coto - a clichéd choice, I imagine, but he managed to do in one season what the series had been promising since before it aired.

I'm more inclined to Tracy Torme for "best writer on TNG." There is no doubt that he wasn't the most influential writer on the show.

TOS: So long as we ignore his stint as Lee Cronin then I would have to go with Coon. He did some very good stuff in season 1 & 2 and was responsible for fleshing out the Star Trek universe.

TNG: Ron Moore. He has a small number of bad episodes, but the rest were either solid or great. He wrote my favourite episode, The Defector, and it was only his second script.

DS9: Ira Behr was responsible for the awesome direction of the show, but I'm going to go with Moore again on this one. Ira had some really bad episodes as well as really awesome episodes, but Moore tended to be consistent as either average or great. I'm not sure how much influence he had on In the Pale Moonlight (my favourite Trek episode) but I know he had an uncredited re-write, and that final haunting scene always felt like something he wrote.

Voyager and Enterprise I cannot comment on since I only noticed who wrote which episodes while rewatching each series over the last few years, and I never rewatched those shows.

I agree with jongredic, Norrin. I think your list is pretty much on target...
