'01 Honda CRV vs. '02 Subaru Outback?

Which car would you go for? They're both AWD, automatic, comparable mileage...about 150,000 kms...and price and condition.

What do you think will have better reliability? Better price and availability of parts, if need be? Better car in general?

2001 Honda CRV?

2002 Subaru Outback?

I should do a poll. How do you do a poll?

I drive an '01 CRV and have had a good track record with it. It's got about 130,000 miles on it right now. Comfortable, drives smoothly, reliable, but it could use a little more power sometimes.

It rarely needs any work beyond the scheduled maintenance.

As far as price of parts - I drove a Subrau before the CRV. The parts tended to be extrmely expensive. The Honda is much more reasonable. I've heard, but can't verify this, that Subaru parts ceom from Japan while Honda parts are manufactured in the states, meaning they are cheaper.

If the Subaru has the 4 cylinder engine, it's due for a timing belt change at 160,000 kms, or 100,000 miles.

An ex of mine had a CRV, the engine needed a partial rebuild at 80,000 miles or 129,000 kms. The 3rd and 4th cylinder valves went, something about oil or overheating. Honda has a TSB out on the engine for that issue.
