News ‘True Lies’ Movie Rebooted As TV Series By Fox

The concept of a secret agent hiding his identity from his significant other worked will in True Lies (and probably even better in the original French movie that it was actually a sloppy remake of), and it worked well in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I don't know how well it would work for a whole series... episode after episode of false alarms where it looks like the significant other will find out, but doesn't!

Well Jamie Lee Curtis does find out the truth in the movie so in theory the next step would be having the family keeping the secret from the world, maybe their parents or choldren and also you might have them working a fake job as cover so you got co-workers who don't know what is going on. Actually when I think about it, I kind of think of "Dexter" only if Dexter was a secret agent instead of serial killer.

Dexter is a good example of how well and how bad this secret double life series can end up. Dexter started off good, it ended terribly. The premise can only go on for so many seasons before it gets ridiculous with the close calls, the revelations and the eventual finding out of the second life by someone who could ruin everything.

True Lies worked as a movie and it could have worked with a sequel but not a franchise. As a series that might be expected to go on for five to seven years that is going to be hard to pull off.

I could be wrong though. I didn't think Lethal Weapon was going to be any good at all but it turned out to be one of the better series to premiere last year.
