What if Riker accepted his first Captain offer?

Thanks! I'm buying this book right now. I have to admit that a Picard/Janeway team up seems a little far fetched, but Christoper L Bennett is my favorite of modern Trek writers. That alone means (IMO, of course), that it'll be good. To the point of the actual thread, Riker would probably have...

    Is it worth watching Disc?

I've seen the whole series, and I think it's worth watching at least once. In the end, I feel that Discovery isn't my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean it's a bad program. Plenty of people loved the show and the stories (so much so that it ushered in a whole new era of Star Trek content...

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 2x20 - "Ouroboros, Part 2"

I just finished watching the finale, and it felt so good to have a familiar Star Trek on the screen again. I have nothing but great things to say about the show, except that it ended with the Mars attack. That was a gut punch for me, because it ushers in the crude, pessimistic, xenophobic Trek...

Old Star Trek fans: don't you sometimes get happy just because there are new series?

I don't feel happy about new series' development anymore because they're not being made for me. I used to feel disgruntled about that (and still have flare ups from time to time), but have accepted the fact that I've aged out of most target demographics. And besides that, Star Trek is a massive...

    Disaster - Peak TNG

I really enjoyed Disaster. It had some magnificent moments that stand out in my mind even without watching it again. "Congratulations. You may now give birth." I love the dynamic between Ro, O'Brien, and Troi. Picard and the kids is cute (and is a great lead-in to Captain Picard Day, lol)...

    Did They Jump Too Far?

Probably both. They can't be bothered to learn about the setting of their stories and they fear fans calling them out.

    Did They Jump Too Far?

Frankly, I don't understand the showrunners reasons. I think it's just laziness that they can't write within the confines of an established universe. Somehow the novelists manage to do a pretty good job, even when writing TOS and TNG novels. I'm reading Pliable Truths by Dayton Ward right now...

    Re-writing Season 3

Agreed about the A. In my head-canon, I like to think the entire Constitution line was on its way out and that Starfleet decided to rush completion of one of the last remaining spaceframes (instead of scrapping it) to celebrate and reward the Enterprise and her crew... Hence both the problems in...

    Re-writing Season 3

There's not much I'd re-write, but here are the highlights: Regardless of the circumstance, I just can't imagine Riker blaming an advisor for the outcome of his own command decisions -- however insistent that advisor was. So I'd rewrite that "You killed us all" scene and other similar scenes...

Wolf 359 Prelude, Parts I and II

Why headless though? It's not unreasonable to believe Hansen would use the Battle Bridge as his own personal command center to manage fleet operations while the Main Bridge was used by the regular crew to operate the ship.

    U.S.S Shadow NCC-92831

This is so cool. Reminds me of the old days on IRC in the 90s and later on AOL. @Jayden Dersch how is this played? Is it a forum/email format or a live chat RPG?

    The Borg and Picard

That was, indeed, the culture. Interesting because that theme would fit in well today. Contemporary affairs are better kept in TNZ, but we're very much in a situation today that is seeing our own overconfidence challenged. "I wonder if the Emperor Honorious, watching the Visigoths coming over...

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

It's still in service. Just rechristened to USS Mekong, after the noble runabout.

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

I never said it needed to be the flagship -- or even a flagship. But it's always been a capital ship. Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador, Galaxy, Sovereign... Enterprises are not support vessels.

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

Just saw the finale and wow... This was one of the most enjoyable hours of Trek I've seen in years... I gave it a 9. I laughed. I cried. It was just amazing. And I'm elated they didn't have a "coolant leak in engineering; warp core breach in five minutes" after the first hit. This is how the...

Paul Wesley's incarnation of James T. Kirk

I suppose that's probably true, but I find it hard to imagine that a significant percentage of viewership is comprised of such newbies. I doubt they're publishing the data, but I would actually be very curious to see the stats on the Paramount+ Trek shows.

    Crew sizes and bunking

I commented on this in the Badly Designed thread, saying, "really think a crew of 3000, plus a smattering of civilians, would make more sense. The ship is huge; and having it run by 200-300 people at any given time doesn't seem sufficient given all the things that need to be done -- operations...

"Why the Enterprise-D Was Badly Designed"

I really like the Galaxy Class... I think it makes sense to have a lot of space and luxury on a ship designed for multi-year journeys. And I don't have any issue with the supposed disproportional look either. To somebody in the 1960s looking at modern vehicles, they'd probably think our cars...

    OT: Where to Buy Episodes?

Thanks guys... I appreciate your responses... I don't really want to buy a set because A - this person is a friend, but not that good of a friend and it'd be weird if I sent a $60 box set just because of a conversation... and B - we were specifically discussing a topic related to The Cage...

    OT: Where to Buy Episodes?

Hi All, I was talking with a friend the other day and promised to buy him a copy of The Cage since we were talking about it and he never knew it existed. So I hopped on over to Amazon Prime Video and The Cage is there, but not for individual sale. Went on Apple's site, and it's not there at...
