Yeah. In the original series, the first incarnation of the Master that we saw (under that name, anyway, bwah hahaha) was never exactly insane, as such. He definitely had some... err... "out there" schemes, but he was generally rational and well organized about it with a clear goal, though evil...
In general, when the science starts to look too much like magic, it loses me. Call me a rigid fuddy-duddy but I like my sci-fi to remain more sciency and leave the magic to the fantasy genre. Mind you, I don't MIND a sci-fi / fantasy franchise that makes it clear that it's about both, but Doctor...
To be more specific, JNT said, "I am done after Season 26 is finished" and towards the end of production for Season 26, they got word that there would be no Season 27. The voice over ending to the last episode of Survival was added shortly before airing because the team knew that that would be it.

I don't remember that many differences between the novel and the movie, as such, more just that the novel contained a lot of expanded exposition and backstory.
I seem to remember that the novelization made it clear that Kirk requested personal command from Nogura because Kirk wanted command back. I haven't read the novel in a few years so I could be misremembering.
I just binged this. It was merely ok. It entertained me, more or less. I kept hoping in the last episode or two that there would be a "redemption arc" for Jod Na Nawood, but alas, no.
