It was, and is. Portland's a great place to visit. We go there a couple times per year, though we live in California, which is obviously much closer. Always wanted to visit Boston and hope we do someday.
Absolutely. They had her character hold back quite a bit, at first, to show how she was protecting herself, and then she became more open and vulnerable (while also staying strong) throughout the rest.
We visited Emperor Georgious Tea Room in Portland Oregon recently and were blown away by the food, atmosphere and Star Trek themed tea room. They even have large murals on the wall of Emperor Georgiou and Captain Burnham. https://www.emperorgeorgiou.black/
Definitely. They said that's there favorite show, though they're fans of everything Trek. One of the main writers (and voices) of Below Decks visited their place recently too and said the producers of the several of the Trek series are aware of their tea room and plan on going when they're in...

Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., and many others advocated pacifistic resistance which is not the same as doing nothing or not taking action. Gandhi also stated that if you can not practice non-violence, then do what you must to protect others. Not exactly in those words, but close.
