Honestly love this thing. It looks like a proto-runabout, which always looked like/was a modified shuttle with an extended mission module.

Agreed. That or he's straight up closed minded to the idea that he could be fooled and is arrogant there. Entirely possible for people to get that impression. Unless it comes out otherwise, I'm going to just head canon it away that he was well meaning but misguided when it came to judging and...
Latest episode also drops the possibility that Zora simply dreamed the whole thing. While kind of an "easy out", it does give a clean reconciliation if the producers ever want to definitively confirm.
I enjoyed the heck out of this, given that it was kind of a clip show/greatest hits, but also showed the stark change that our characters have been going through.
Rayner seems to be adjusting rapidly, but he WAS a captain, so no dummy and I'm willing to give him leeway as a fast learner.
A bunch of ships in fleet formation mode controlled by borgified crewmembers shooting at it probably triggered Red Alert. I'd hope, anyway. It was tanking with shields, so I'd assume a Red Alert was underway.

Well...the idea that something from space was totally ignoring the humans and communicating with the whales is a nice plot line, and one I wish could be explored more fully.
