I just posted some BTS on Unification from a talk I did a few weeks ago (link to full cast BTS at the end of the first video), with Adam Nimoy, Rod and others:

I hear you. I didn't want to do an explicit resurrection/retcon for Unification, as I would agree many of the tropes that come with that approach don't properly reflect the respect I think the character deserves.

Definitely doing another one of these events next year!

Actually I meant that Unification was a fitting closing scene for Kirk and Spock's narrative from our story's perspective, but not the end of us creating more content to fill in everything else that happens before then.

This was Doug's thinking for the J. There would be multiple generations of crew and very long, distant missions. The transparent "refit" version as Doug calls it, was intended to illustrate his concept that space-time is compacted towards the edges of the saucer to provide much a larger livable...

FWIW from the moment we shared the storyboards with paramount, we had their input every week up to release. The Paramount creative team (listed in the credits) we worked with was wonderful.

I am floored by the reaction. I can’t read the YT comments without crying. i had 3 specific interpretations in mind, with one I favored most, but did my best to leave nothing to chance that fully locks the viewer in to any of them or negates the others, Carlos and I were in lock step on this...
