That's what it looked like to me. They were showing video communications on it after all.
That's true, it is a reboot movie after all. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

Why? They could have made an awesome movie without completely disregarding established trek lore.

I think the ship was just upside down in relation to the camera.
I hope they show up in the next one. :)
That's good there will be a sequel. Hopefully we'll have a whole series of them to look forward to.
