Vic Fontaine is one of the reasons why I really dislike the later seasons of DS9. How people love a character with absolute no flaws? He's the literal definition of a Mary Sue, every crew of DS9 loves Fontaine for no reason except that he's the most clever person on the universe, according to...
I one hundred percent agree with you. She's not a bad character by any means, there's a lot of interesting drama, but she came to do too little, too late, all at a cost of sacrificing screentime of the main cast.
Vic Fontaine is one of the worst characters to ever appear on Star Trek.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. The opening of Return of the Jedi feels like I'm watching a completely different movie. No wonder why is considered the weakest of the original trilogy.
I agree, as a result the final episodes feels very rushed and underdeveloped. Her character isn't really the only problem though, I think in the last season they were throwing everything on the wall to see what sticks. "Hmm... Sisko is now the son of the Prophets!", "Look how amazing Vic...
"Thine Own Self" feels a bit like Voyager lite, especially the structure. For instance, the story starting out on a mysterious or dangerous circumstance and the explanation of how our characters got in there being spoon fed through out the episode was way too common on Voyager to varying degrees...
DS9 is overall pretty solid with huge potential, up until its final seasons due to a lot of missed opportunities of what they could've done with the show. Here's some of my thoughts.
1) Vic Fontaine: already explained ad nauseum in another post about how much I hate him. The absolute worst...
Well, I never thought about that, it seems to me that Vic Fontaine would've fit more into Voyager's tone really. On DS9 he looks so out of place.
I always thought Neelix was overhated, he's annoying sometimes, but at least has more depth than a hologram (no pun intended ).
It was quite common in the old days to destroy remaining material to gain more space on the shelves, simply because they didn't think that there was any use for it or they didn't want the public to watch. You'll be suprised at how many movies or TV shows don't have any material left available...
Two episodes comes to my mind: "Requiem to Methuselah" and "Plato's Stepchildren". It's curious to me as to why these episodes are so praised, since I find them unwatchable.
I kinda like "I, Mudd" and "Catspaw" TBH. They aren't good, but at least they're fun to watch. I rather watch those two...
Vic Fontaine almost ruined DS9. A super genius computer program that is also a lounge Vegas singer? Besides, what flaws does Vic Fontaine have? Absolutely none, because apparently he's perfect, everybody loves him and he knows everything! He's symptomatic to the problems the later seasons had...
Thanks for correcting me, I didn't know the final cut were already on film. The opticals and CGI effects are really the problem. I think it's really stupid for Paramount not do anything, even Babylon 5 got a HD release. I was watching on HBO Max and it looks great, but they didn't remade any...
The only positive thing I can say about Shades of Grey is that it's not even on my list of the worst episodes, precisely because I never remember that exists .
I think it's a harmless episode. It's not offensively bad, it's not so-bad-it's-good, it just exists. We know the reason why it...
Because it's very expensive to do a proper restoration for DS9. Despite being filmed, the episodes were all edited on videotape and as result, all the VFX were done on standard definition. Basically, the masters are what we see now. The only way to proper restore it in HD, it's to return to the...
Well, I can tell my experience as a small kid. I always knew who were the klingons and who Spock, Kirk and McCoy was, even though I didn't watch Star Trek. Although on TNG, I knew that it had that bald captain and the weird klingon. I never knew the other shows existed.
I think TOS...
For start, I would remove children aboard the Enterprise. It doesn't make sense considering the Enterprise is often on dangerous missions. Besides, we wouldn't have any Worf and Alexander soap opera and episodes involving bad child actors.
Well, season 3 does a lot to undermine what Star Trek was trying to do. A lot of the episodes from the season have that low-budget sci-fi feel to it, but not in a good way, even more when you look at the stories. In previous seasons, the quality of the scripts overshadowed any shortcomings of...
You're right about that. Compared with other sci-fi shows at that time, Star Trek deliberately avoided those tropes. But it still was a product of its time, so there's some episodes that didn't age well, but suprisingly most of them still hold up.
Answering the OP question, one that comes to...
