"Star Trek III: The Search for Spock"

Yes, it is a strange choice for a title. As the post above mentions, it’s not much of a “search,” they already know where he is. “The Return of Spock” could have worked, but they probably didn’t want the title to seem so close to Return of the Jedi, which had come out the previous year. “Star...

    Star Trek: Generations at 30

This movie is great! It’s got a fantastic score, it’s visually impressive, and it’s got a lot of humor. Malcolm Mcdowell gives a great performance and Soren is a unique vilain in the Trek film series. I don’t think they had to do a “crossover” movie for the first TNG film( First Contact showed...

    Whatever happened to Kes?

This is an interesting topic. Are there books that go into what happened with her? I think it’s sad that her character was written off of the show. I think there was great story potential with having her continue to be “mentored” by Tuvok as her powers grew, and also in seeing where her...

    The Survivors Episode

TNG season 3 was where the show could start to be a little “soap opera-esque” in its plots, but this is a good episode and story-driven. I like these “puzzle” episodes of TNG, like this one and “Clues,” where a mystery unfolds. There’s also a sadness and tragedy to this one that makes the...

    Sell Me on TAS, Please

I love TAS. It’s sad that it had such a short run of episodes. Who knows what they would have done with a five season or longer run? The opening music and title sequence is great. TAS had its budgeting limitations, as did TOS, but it’s a fun series with good writing.

    The Appeal Of Chekov

Chekov gets funny lines and he gives Sulu someone of similar rank and position to talk to on the bridge. Chekov’s role becomes even bigger in the original series’ movies, and he seems to have more screen time than Sulu and Uhura.

Is it just me or does Season 4 look a little different?

Those are good points. Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens are great writers.

"Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" or "Star Trek: Generations"?

“ST:Gen” is better. The visual look of the film is fantastic and very cinematic. The performances from Stewart, Shatner, McDowell, and Spiner are all outstanding. The villain of the film is very original, with a much different motivation from the other villains in the film series. The music for...

Is it just me or does Season 4 look a little different?

And yet season 4 was probably the best of the show. Maybe without the bigger budget and special effects to fall back on, the greater focus on writing and story development made the difference.

"Going out on a high" - a new Trek Tradition?

Wow, that’s some intense dislike for “Star Trek: Beyond!” I thought that “Star Trek: Beyond” was pretty good, although somewhat forgettable. It had the usual humor, fun, and action of the reboot movies. I wonder what caused the intense dislike for it? I agree with your view on “Star...

A whole lot better, twenty-odd years later

I also like ENT a lot more now than I did when it came out. Seasons 3 and 4 are especially strong. As a few others here have written, ENT’s reputation has probably improved in comparison to “Star Trek: Discovery.”

Poll Is the Trek that you grew up with also your favorite Trek?

I wasn’t around when TOS was first on, but it’s my favorite Trek series. It actually wasn’t on TV that much for a while during the ‘90s so getting to see a few episodes here and there felt very exciting. I think the Big Three of that series works so well and TOS had great sci-fi writers as well.

Generations had a bigger budget than ST6, so why...

The re-use of this shot doesn’t bother me. Visually “ST:Generations” looks great overall, despite a rather modest budget. They had to control costs somewhere. Unless you watched ST:VI and “ST:Generations” back to back I don’t think the re-use really stands out.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

It’s not the budget, it’s what you do with it that counts. Budget limitations can sometimes lead to more creative storytelling because the great special effects can’t be relied on.

Thoughts on the Borg Queen (First Contact, Voyager, etc.)

I think that they introduced her for the movie because it was perceived as more effective drama to have a villain with a specific “face” as opposed to a faceless one, similar to the idea of why Locutus was used in BOBW. And Alice Krige gave a great performance in ST:FC, the movie was very...

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I would disagree on this. I feel like TNG became a bit slower-paced much more in the later seasons than it did early on, BECAUSE it would sometimes get soap opera-esque. I think that early TNG has much more of a straight adventure feel whereas the more high-concept (and the soap opera stuff as...

Ah, got it, sorry. So more as far as the Phase II stuff than specifically the TMP stuff.

Blogger says being like Troi is one of the goals of his life

Troi is a cool and underrated character. She’s a therapist, captain’s advisor, and informal ambassador all in one officer.

Poll Did You Watch "These Are the Voyages" When It Originally Aired?

I saw it when it was first on. I thought it was ok and kind of a strange letdown way of wrapping up the series, but I did NOT anticipate the level of vitriol that this particular episode would inspire. It’s not even close to being among the worst episodes of the series.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Do you mean as far as Troi and Riker’s relationship being like Decker and Ilia’s? Well that’s a borrowing of backstory but in what way is TNG like an improved TMP?
