Twilight Zone's premiere did better than Discovery's premiere, but AA had far less subscribers when Discovery premiered.
Twilight Zone was on the weekly Parrot Analytics top 7 streaming shows once during its season. Discovery has been on the top 7 list for pretty much its entire season, and beyond.
Its more complicated than that. Did you see how "Active Consumption" is second in its hierarchy?
I read PA even looks at how much a show is being pirated online.
What PA weighs highest to lowest (top to bottom):
Creative Participation
Active Consumption
Deep Research
Social Encouragement
Public Posting
Expressing an Opinion
Subscribing to Updates
Indicating Interest
Passive Expressions
Not surprising at all. Discovery was #2 for the previous 30 days.

Spock was on Vulcan minding his own business, when V'Ger called to him. Just him. The Vulcan Kolinahr Master only sensed it when melding with Spock.
It is a bizarre random connection that centers Spock, but you're giving it a free pass for...reasons.
Show of hands--who here remembers the part where V'Ger calls out Spock while he's on Vulcan?
Those other characters had their own stories too. They got more than a lot of other Trek characters.
The creator of the show says it is half-comedy, half-drama.
Why is this idea so offensive to people in this thread? It's not a serious drama. So? Why is that bad?
MacFarlane himself says the show straddles comedy and drama.

It's marketed as a comedy.
This is a comedy trailer.
I've seen it also called a comedy-drama, which works too. It still isn't a serious drama. A serious, modern Trek drama couldn't get away with what the Orville gets away with.
Oh no. The Orville can get away with being a silly throwback with recycled plots because it's a comedy.
Any new Trek drama would get lambasted for being stuck in the past.
"Important" does not mean "central." The stories center Kirk and Spock. Looking at episode summaries, not even McCoy so much. How many episodes center him?
Sulu becoming captain of the Excelsior is very much peripheral to the story of TUC.
