    Disease

I just re-watched this episode and realized I like it. The episode is the one where Harry breaks the rules regarding intimate interaction with a newly-encountered alien species. It's funny and ridiculous at some points (how many times did Riker and others, but mostly Riker break those...

    The 37's: A Question

I don't know. However, thinking of this episode makes me remember how much I disliked the ending. Amelia Earhart should not have settled. She should have been intent on learning how to fly the new ships -- starting with a shuttlecraft, and then aspiring to fly Voyager itself. She and Tom could...

Did Janeway torture Paris in "Thirty Days"?

I liked the episode. Janeway did not go overboard. Paris stole a shuttle, ignored direct orders, and tried to destroy the property of an alien civilization. The 'why' of it is not important. Janeway's reaction was good. She can't just ignore things like this all the time. The problem is all...

    How would you rewrite Chakotay?

I would break the rule of this thread and recast him. If however, I was forced to keep Beltran, I would have Chakotay lead an away team on an 'routine' exploration and gathering mission. The planet would have a relatively safe flatland section, and a valley area that the sensors showed was...

If you were Janeway and could pick one additional crewmember from the other series...

I would pick a new first officer. Here are the candidates: Tuvok (recruit Worf as the new security chief) Kira (who gets drafted into Starfleet somehow and wears a Starfleet uniform) Jadzia Dax (promoted upon joining the Voyager crew) Data I would NOT pick Riker. I like Riker. He was my...

Observations, rewatching Season 1 for first time in a while

I love the second half hour of Prime Factors. It cracks me up. I particularly like the scene wherein Torres just shoots the... thingmajig... with a phaser. I agree with you about Seska though -- it was disappointing to just have her beam away. She would have been better to stay on the ship, as...

    Spoilers Who captain?

He was supposed to become a member of the Discovery bridge crew, but the special effects were too expensive -- or so I've read.

Spoilers Star Trek Discovery Season 1: Overall Review Thread

I liked the season -- right up until the last episode. It was too 'neat'. Everything worked out too perfectly. Michael stood up to the Admiral (who was only there in a hologram -- how hard is it to stand up to a vision?) and the Admiral gave in easily. MU Georgiou couldn't bring herself to kill...

    Spoilers Missed opportunities in DSC?

I didn't watch much of Enterprise, but Harry Kim got a lot more attention than Detmer, Ariam and, um, those other three whose names I don't remember. I think the greatest 'missed opportunity' of this season revolved around Prime universe Georgiou. I liked her a lot. I wish the Klingons hadn't...

    Random speculations thread!

Terrans don't apologize. That's the mirror universe rule that Burnham spoke to Tilly and Lorca said to Tyler. Yet, after being told something about 'now' for the torpedoes or weapons of some sort, MU Detmer said 'apologies'. To me, that qualifies as an apology. Terrans don't apologize. MU...

What would you change about this series?

If I could make just one change, Captain Georgiou would still be alive.

    First Mutineer?

I don't understand why Burnham is called 'Starfleet's First Mutineer'. She is the -only- mutineer. Are they automatically assuming there will be a second mutineer? I guess if she isn't treated harshly, there might be someone in the future who will think 'well Burnham did it and her career...

Ranking the Discovery Episodes so far...

    1. The Vulcan Hello 2. Battle at the Binary stars 3. Context is for Kings 4. The Butcher's Knife cares not for the lamb's cry. 5. Lethe 6. Choose your pain. 7. Magic to make the sanest man go mad

    Science Specialist Michael Burnham

She gets to be on the bridge. Saru might faint if she says any words similar in sound to 'tactical' or 'fire'. That's what specialist means.

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 1x07 - "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad"

It had a bit of good content, but overall, I agree. When I binge re-watch the series after season one concludes, I might skip watching this episode. As for the other episodes, well, I can imagine watching them 53+ times.

Which ST: Disco Character Would You Like to See Most Die?

I picked Lorca. I don't want it to happen soon. I would like to see how Burnham stays on the ship with him gone. I like her character and I like her interaction with Saru.

    Discovery Renewed for Season 2

Star Trek: Medicine. This series would cover the captaincy of Katrina Cornwell. Watch as she commands her ship to various planets in the federation. She and her crew bring food, water, medical supplies and psychiatric care to victims of attacks, disease, or famine. They face many perils -- not...

Spoilers What are the odds of Cornwell making it to the end of the season?

I hope she somehow survives. I don't know how the Discovery will factor into it - Lorca, obviously, does not want her to come back as she made clear that she plans to take the ship from him. There's a rather big hole in the logic around the Admiral's actions. She tells Lorca that she thinks he...

Is Burnham the least engaging of the Discovery Characters?

I don't think that Burnham's arc is anywhere close to being finished.

When will Burnham get her rank back?

All that really needs to happen is for the writers to craft a compelling redemption story in the next nine episodes. Then she can be captain. I want her to be captain, but without a lot of work, it can't happen convincingly. What would she do if someone under her command committed mutiny?
