I love Generations as a TNG send-off, my main issue’s with the Kirk stuff really - such an awful send off for such an iconic character (at least Data’s death ended up being undone - wondered if a Kirk cameo/resurrection was also on the cards when I was watching Picard when it was airing given...
That she turned it down in spite of the obvious advantages certainly points to the fact that the idea was less than stellar. I don't think she should just take whatever Trek gig turns up regardless of quality if she doesn't want to.
In terms of what next, I went for Legacy but I'd be happy with...
The issue is that it is contrived as per the definition. Agnes has to get captured because she 100% knows that the security people will put someone who gate-crashed an incredibly important gala (with insanely high security) into the main control room with only two guards. The show then does the...
I think it could have been fun. Of course all they've said so far is that the next season is starship-based and that the old cast are back so it doesn't necessarily mean it will be a Starfleet thing so La Sirena may come back into it.
I think fans being annoyed about something isn't really an issue. It's nigh on impossible to create something that all of a sci-fi fandom will love (which the people behind the Star Wars sequels learned) and so it's best to just ignore fandom I feel rather than pander to them. The fact that most...
I think it just boils down to writing chops really. There's no hard and fast rule but I don't think not being a massive fan is an issue and so long as it's not chock full of weird fannish references I don't think that's an issue either really.
This is also my feeling re the show. I loved the...
Indeed, I sometimes think there's actually an argument for keeping massive fans away from the big sci-fi franchises! I mean, I remember the reimagined Battlestar was REALLY controversial when it started due to how different it was but it became one of the most acclaimed modern sci-fi series.
I don't think being a massive fan of Star Trek is necessary for writing it and indeed the same goes for other sci-fi franchises. Indeed, Andrew Cartmel's my favourite Doctor Who writer/script editor but he didn't know much about the show before he started. I don't think there have been any major...
I actually thoroughly enjoyed Season One - the only thing I didn't like was the whole RoboPicard thing because it just seemed to be a way for the writers to have their cake and eat it by giving him a 'moment of glory' send off only to undo it. Plus, it was weird for Data to insist on dying as...
I'm not clamouring for Picard to revert to being human but I do think RoboPicard was poor, contrived writing. When Soong mentioned the golem in Season One I thought that it was a way to bring Data back which, whilst still fairly contrived I could understand the desire to undo Nemesis and bring...
I thought Renee was supposed to be 23 but maybe I misheard. She's supposed to be undergoing psych. evaluations if I remember correctly. Sure, she could be lying through her teeth but some of her behaviour (getting freaked in the simulator, the heavy drinking in public) would raise eyebrows...
Next week looks interesting. A dud episode (IMO anyway) can happen and it's not like all of Trek has been unadulterated greatness. Looking forward to seeing Agnes/the Queen on the prowl and the Watcher delving into Picard's memories could be fun. I think given the recent cast announcement for...
Caught up and didn't think it was a strong episode. My main issue was with how unbelievable the Renée Picard stuff seemed to me - she seems too young and unstable to be an astronaut and given her issues in the simulator and the heavy drinking, I'm surprised her superiors haven't replaced her by...
How are people enjoying it so far? Had an absolute blast so far - yesterday I had a bunch of photos done and all the guests were all really awesome and generous (still can’t believe I’ve actually met a lot of them!); Wilson Cruz especially was such a lovely guy. I’m in a wheelchair so it can be...
My refund voucher came through!
It's the World Cup Qualifier against Albania - kick off at 19:45. However, I've ended up getting an Opening Ceremony ticket with one of the refund vouchers I've got so I'll be giving the football a miss. Trying to put together an itinerary for the...
Ah! Sounds good! Last event I went to there was the London Guitar Show back in 2008 and judging from when I got my vaccine it's changed a bit there with more cafes/bars etc. I was too young to drink in pubs back then so probably wouldn't have clocked it anyway to be fair! I'd also recommend...
It's a shame the way it worked out re the Voyager presence. Weird how the Discovery shoot has more of the main cast than the Voyager one! I guess given Covid it's understandable (plus for all we know some of them may be filming cameos for Picard) but it does seem cancellations were sat on for...
