    Set blueprint exchange

Some fantastic updates, and I'm glad you're doing better @Redgeneral! Worth pointing that, while very useful, those Defiant blueprints have a myriad of differences vs how the set actually was during the show, especially regarding wild walls. Those were probably further modified during...

@Rory1707: Thanks! Here are all the final renders!

    3D interiors in Blender

For the past few weeks we've been doing some renovations at home so everything's a mess, as if I needed any more of that hahaha. This next week will hopefully be the last. Today I was finally able to work on the remaining LCARS and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I tried a bunch of...

    3D interiors in Blender

I continue to not have much free time, and by this point I want to be done with this bridge. 😂 I've finished the aft screens, tried a few different patterns for the silver borders surrounding the LCARS and I'm quite happy with this layout, having every other panel divided in two, adds some...

    3D interiors in Blender

How would we know this is a medical ship if there aren't at least 5 caduceus visible from every angle? @Firebird: On the Pasteur we see the side panels used for Communications. Remember that except while doing evasive maneuvers or something like that, piloting is mostly an automated...

    3D interiors in Blender

After testing out some alternatives and not being happy with any, I ended up doing a slight redesign of the Captain's chair. I wanted it to still be clearly based on the Defiant's, but with the same wide armrests and lack of controls as the Pasteur's. The Captain's chair from the USS Ventura of...

    3D interiors in Blender

@Mr. Phraust: lol, it's the one from my Evolution of the Enterprise-D bridge article over at EAS, it's one of the last episodes where that area is clearly visible. @Macintosh: What the alligator said. Not much time to work on this last week, but I finished the small LCARS for the...

    3D interiors in Blender

Yep, exactly. That area was redesigned halfway through season 3, and both the matte cover and those silkscreened LCARS buttons were added at the same time. The matte was probably added to make filming faster, the full plexi panel could show filming equipment very easily.

    3D interiors in Blender

@Michael: Yes, but I meant we never see it surrounded like I placed it. Even on the Saratoga it has a little border made out of white tape surrounding it, to separate it from the backlit elements. Besides, on the Enterprise-D those replicator controls on the little recessed area are silkscreened...

    3D interiors in Blender

@blssdwlf: Those metallic elements on the LCARS aren't part of the displays themselves, but added on top. We often see them around non-displays areas like this, so it is consistent with how they were used. If they were lit elements then indeed it would break convention. As for what the second...

    3D interiors in Blender

@cardinal biggles: Yes, it's the last use of that console as far as I know. Very awkward in that space, but then again this whole bridge is very crowded.

    3D interiors in Blender

Ahh, I get it now, sorry I didn't understand before. It's not necessarily display space, just a plexi panel which we often see used by non-display stuff, such as replicators or plaques. It's also a callback to the Runabout graphic that inspired that panel, which also had a more basic version of...

    Set blueprint exchange

It's the full-size model, if you check the shots frame-by-frame you'll see it's never quite a perfect match, same as when the Enterprise is docked or any other ship really. The test models were used to track the shots and then calculate the conversion to use the full size models, but it was...

    3D interiors in Blender

Finished the ship graphic. I decided to change its style so it fits in better with the DS9/Voy-style rather than the simpler TNG-style graphic I was going for before. I then moved it to the port side of the bridge, to have it further away from the dedication plaque, as it contains some of the...

    Set blueprint exchange

Nah, a camera test model wouldn't be made out of resin, but rather paper and foam. There's a lot of photos of the Defiant's camera test models and multiple were even sold at auction, including station-scale ones, and they're smaller than this model. The description on the auction also says that...

    3D interiors in Blender

Mostly finished the main ship graphic, I added some panel lines that aren't there on the actual miniature in some areas (like the nacelles and pylons) just to break up the empty spaces, something often done on these sorts of graphics on the shows (the Brattain's and Vico's come to mind). I might...
  19. Rekkert

    Set blueprint exchange

I'm highly sceptical of that model being a "docking miniature", it has multiple differences with the main Defiant model and every shot I could find of the ship docked matches said standard model, not this one. It's not unusual for these auctions to have things mislabeled, and no book or...

    3D interiors in Blender

Had to pause work on the Leloir for a while due to some electrical issues at home, plus personal issues in general; it hasn't been an easy couple of weeks. Anyway, today I UV mapped the consoles and started work on the LCARS. Like the rest of the set, the colors are based on the Jupiter Station...
