The Brandon Lee story is the first thing that came to my mind. I feel terrible for all involved and their families. Just absolutely sucks. I'm also not sure why every article is giving a quick rundown of the plot--doesn't seem like the time?
Wow--some old names in this thread!
I'm a pre-2000 member but I was posting before you had to register then registered this name when Christian finally decided you had to. I think I maybe had to re-register to when the board crashed? Or maybe I'm making that up.
I have fond memories of da...
Yeah that's what I keep coming back to is that there are quite a few gems early on and some good world building. However, there are some episodes which are down right cringeworthy to watch. Which is why I'm curious if there is a B5-like solution. Where there are 6-7 episodes of the first season...
I've started the process of introducing DS9 to my girlfriend. She likes other incarnations of Star Trek, but wouldn't be what you'd call a Trekkie. (Or, the type of fan to visit a message board about it.) As I queued up the first few episodes on Netflix the memories of the first season came back...
They haven't hired anybody yet. So how can you know they've hired the wrong people? Wait until Kurtzman puts a staff together and finds a showrunner then you can freak out. I know us Trekkies like to issue a red alert at the first sign of a weird sensor reading but let's give the show at chance...
I'd like to see a True Detective/Fargo-like anthology series. Where each season is self contained. New ship, crew, and even timeline. It would allow the series to move between timelines as it likes, and explore stories in each.
Outside of that probably-not-happening option, I would a mix...
I would guess there will be a home media release internationally at some point, but also it will be sold via CBS Studios International to foreign TV markets so you should be fine.
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
According to multiple news reports CBS International will license it to other territories.
Re: New Series Official Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins Januar
Both were on it. Voyager launched the network, but UPN slowly moved away from programming similar shows, and by the time Enterprise came around it stuck out like a sore thumb.
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
I like what Vox culture editor Todd VanDerWerff proposed: an anthology series like True Detective or Fargo. I think that would be a great idea, and would allow a way to explore more of the Trek universe. I doubt CBS goes...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
I imagine CBS keeps with the traditional model and does one episode a week. They're going to need to/want to stretch out those subscriptions as long as possible. They don't have the numbers of Netflix to fall back on for...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
That makes sense. I come at from a perspective of cancelled cable for streaming only. I think the big difference from Netflix/Amazon/Hulo compared to CBS is they can take the hit of people only subscribing to watch one...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
I've been trying to hunt down # of subscribers to CBS All Access with little luck. Current rate is $5.99/month.
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
I agree about Trek demographics I just don't see CBS SVOD adding enough value to entice those younger viewers to come over with their current catalog. If they add more must-see series it could work, but as it currently...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
Take out a % to support the streaming service, and the expected expanded growth you get a lot less per episode, or need more people to sign on. I don't doubt that CBS has a plan, and it makes to boost their SVOD service...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
I'm with you. The biggest worry going into this would be people skip the subscription and go directly to torrent it. Unless CBS drops 5-7 new shows exclusive to their service I don't know if Trek will be enough to sustain...
Re: New Series Announcement from StarTrek.com - Begins January 17, 201
An interesting gamble for CBS re: their SVOD service. I get the logic but I'm not sure if one exclusive series is enough to make people jump on board when the rest of your new shows are available for free, even if it...
