Spock’s Brain…
When our boys find the cave entrance, the 2 redshirts take up positions. The blond on the left side of the screencap and the dark haired on the right. But…
…when the boys enter the cave, the blond redshirt jumps to the other side of the entrance. You can barely see him in the...
Shore Leave
As Kirk and Spock head back to the glade, they are strafed by the plane. On the lower left corner of the screen cap is a crack/fissure with a distinctive inverted V.
Next they run into the Samurai. After they knock him down they run by the same crack with the inverted V that they...
IIRC, Justman also stated that it wasn’t enjoyable to come into work anymore. The ‘family atmosphere’ between production crew members also declined, according to him. I could branch into my complaints about Freiberger being partially responsible, but that could derail this thread.
Maybe he could have improved on his narration by alterations in tone or delivery. I’m assuming GR was happy with it at the time. I still think it’s one of the most dramatic and intriguing television intros ever.
Shatner hits a Grand Slam with his narration for the opening credits of TOS. His dramatic pauses and emphasis on certain words accentuates the superbly written dialog, plus we get to view the Enterpise exploring the cosmos. TOS is one of the few series during the era that presented their...
Yes, it was a pilot episode for a series that didn’t sell. I’m sure if it had been picked up by a network it would have barely lasted a year, if even that long.
TOS produced some outstanding sci-fi episodes that I still enjoy watching after many decades. I’d watch just about any TOS episode, but the one that makes me really itch to turn the channel on satellite tv is “Friday’s Child”. I don’t hate it, nor do I love it. I’m ambivalent whenever it appears...
I think it was Bob Justman who said something to the effect that all TOS episodes were unique, although he prefaced that with a derogatory comment about Spock’s Brain.
Yes, I didn’t realize that. Yarnek responded to Kirk as an intelligent alien, who was simply seeking new information from another source. Another less qualified SF writer might have just made Yarnek a one dimensional evil alien out to destroy all humans.
Post a comment about something from an episode of TOS that either inspires you or irritates you.
Here’s mine…although it’s not my favorite TOS episode by a long shot, in The Savage Curtain Kirk’s last words to Yarnek are “We came in peace.” I still believe that essentially sums up GR’s...
When Harve Bennett was preparing for filming TWOK, he binge watched all 79 TOS episodes. He came to the following conclusion : 1/3 were good, 1/3 were okay and 1/3 were stinkers. Do you agree with his math?
Recently I started a thread about William Shatner’s Finest TOS Performance. Okay, Leonard, now it’s your turn. It could be a brief scene, a whole act or an entire episode.
And awayyyyyyy we go…
To borrow a word from Spock’s vocabulary, I’ve always been fascinated by the end of Requiem For...
It had some interesting possibilities : parallel universe, matter/antimatter, time travel, etc. However, the script and direction seemed to be out of sync or lost in space. Plus seeing Lazarus fall down multiple times was just too hysterical.
I remember seeing an interview with one of Nimoy’s friends who advised him to decline the offered role of Spock. He said something to the effect of “Don’t take this job! If you put on those silly ears it will be career suicide!”
