    MLB Off Season 24-25

I imagine people would raise holy hell if a star player were to suffer a season-ending injury during a meaningless exhibition game in December. I happen to think it's quite nice that the NHL has a scheduled three-day break for Christmas every year--which it's done since, I think, 1971--and I...

MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

The taxpayers of the city and county are now on the hook for roughly $550 million of this new stadium. That's the bullshit part. Stu Sternberg is a Wall Street magnate, worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He can do what any normal person does when they want to build a house: Go to the banks...

$1.3 billion for a stadium that will draw like 15,000 people a night. Jesus, what a scam.

As a longtime recovering alcoholic myself, I don't see a reason to doubt her. Sometimes you have too much on the plane and you show up hammered to work. It would certainly explain a lot about her performance and demeanor; she's also a lot older than I was when I went to rehab. Addiction is a...

MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

I would have watched the Derby last night, but a derecho swept through eastern Iowa last night and knocked out power from roughly 6:30 p.m. until just before noon today.

MLB 2024: Baseball is for Everyone (subject to local blackout restrictions)

Ingrid Andress, who performed a very, uh, interesting rendition of the National Anthem at the Home Run Derby last night, has announced that she was drunk during the performance and is entering treatment for substance abuse.

    Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

This is precisely true. The footage you see in those ASPCA commercials is usually stuff captured on an iPhone or whatever, to document the conditions the animals have been kept in as evidence for criminal and / or civil prosecution.

Wander Franco has finally been charged with sexual abuse, rape, and human trafficking. The girl's mother is facing, at the very least, charges of money laundering. Wander ain't ever playing in MLB again.

Another Hellboy reboot is coming sooner than you think...

This looks absolutely dreadful. Edit: The whole thing looks and sounds like it's trying to ape the 2012 Dredd movie, in terms of being a small-scale movie and the grim intonations by Hellboy, but sweet mercy, none of it lands. At all. Not even in the same country, to say anything of being in...

Let's not pretend that the B5 cast was filled with Emmy-worthy performers.

Why is toxic fandom destroying everything?

Because this version of Batman was a guy at the absolute end of his rope, with Superman's presence basically breaking his worldview. One of BvS' major throughlines is Bruce Wayne rediscovering what it means to be a hero, instead of a vigilante cop.

Why is toxic fandom destroying everything?

Speak for yourself. As far as I'm concerned, Snyder's four for four when it comes to adaptations; the director's cut of Watchmen and the ultimate edition of Batman v. Superman are nearly unimpeachable.

Why is toxic fandom destroying everything?

I enjoy Man of Steel a lot, and I was a huge fan of Cavill's take on the character. I just laugh sometimes at the visceral hatred that Zack Snyder gets. Fans: "God, Superman Returns SUCKED! Superman didn't punch anything!" Zack Snyder: "Here's Man of Steel." Fans: "NO NOT LIKE THAT"

    NFL 2024: Chiefs Kingdom Targets a Three-Peat

Oh, it's a story as old as time. I don't know if the NFL and if MLB still do this, but it used to be that all rookies had to go through mandatory financial literacy classes around the start of training camp, basically explaining to these players that they have newfound generational wealth and...

    Babylon 5

I think Byron also suffers because it was essentially Robin Atkin Downes' first major role as an actor. He was terribly inexperienced and didn't have the skills at the time to deliver Straczynski's dialogue, which--let's be honest, here--could be ham-fisted on a good day.

Russell made roughly $36 million in his career; even taking taxes and agent fees into account, he must have burned through it really quickly (or he got taken for a ride by freeloading family and friends, which happens all too often) if he's scalping donations. Or he spent it all on purple drank.

VARIETY: Paramount-Skydance merger collapsed in the final moments, and will lead to layoffs and austerity measures

Season 3 of SNW has wrapped outside of pickups and post-production, Section 31 movie has finished filming, and Paramount built one of the biggest sets in history for Starfleet Academy which is roughly halfway through filming. Those are all sunk costs and will actually happen.

I don't think the Ricketts family really needs to worry about that. Even during the dogshit tanking years of, like, 2010 - 2014, the Cubs were still one of the highest-drawing teams in the league.
