I love this more and more every time I see it.

Love those thrusters. I'm really enjoying the SNW take on the TOS era, but I miss that sort of touch, where the TOS movies feel like watching an in-universe historical piece. The tech is clearly well beyond ours, but still has those little touches that connect it to physical reality.

I can't remember what the effect looks like in the movie (and think yours already looks great!), but perhaps a difference in the ramp up versus the ramp down could help with giving it more of a feeling of physicality. Individual elements brightening very quickly, but then taking a second or two...

Does the UV tool you are using have a relax option?

Always got the impression that the main purpose of the Captains Yacht was for diplomatic uses, moving delegations between planetary surfaces and ships, first contact situations, stuff like that. Probably wouldn't want it operating independently too much.

I love this. Have often thought that if remaking TOS effects shots, the way to do the Enterprise would be a mix of close up shots that show off human-scale detail and emphasize how big the ship is, and distant shots where the ship is quite small and looks almost the same as it did in TOS...

Word says this type of thing a whole lot considering we never actually see him follow through with his big scary Klingon thing.

There is also the fact that you are succumbing to an Earth centric interpretation of Martian conditions. Much of the content of ice poles on Mars that changes through the course of the year is not water ice, but CO2 ice.
