Wouldn't there HAVE to be a real Ash Tyler? No one seemed to have any questions when he was "rescued" from the Klingons that he was who he said he was. That suggests there was an Ash Tyler in the Starfleet database who had gone missing.
On After Trek, Matt asked for clarification if Tyler was turned into Voq or Voq was turned into Tyler. Huh? Was there ever any confusion that Voq became Tyler and not the other way around?
With Fuller out of the picture (and with him, any chance of an anthology right now), all bets are off. I doubt the showrunners are sticking to his vision. That's not a criticism, though. If I were running the show, I'd do what I thought was best instead of following someone else's vision.
I...
As long as it's less on-the-nose than the new season of American Horror Story, we'll be okay. lol! But yes, we DEFINITELY get too much of that in the real world. It's exhausting.
I could be wrong, but my impression from the interview wasn't that Seth was taking a pot shot at Discovery (though he's clearly under the impression that it's darker and less optimistic, as am I when I see the trailers) but that he was taking a shot at post-Enterprise Star Trek (i.e., the Kelvin...
I think it's just poorly worded. The article doesn't specifically say it will also be on Netflix in the U.S., though the phrasing implies that. But it's been made clear for quite some time that in the U.S., our only option is CBS All Access. The article even says, "The show will premiere on...
lol! I deleted it when I realized I was wrong -- they're definitely not the same transporter rooms. :-) But I do agree that the pictures are great! I have concerns about the show in general but the production design is gorgeous!
Could the weird steampunk thing be a decontamination chamber or something? If you look past that in the new image, we see what looks much more like a traditional transporter chamber.
I'm not expecting ANY sex scenes. But if there were to be any, I'm not someone who will be judging the characters are promiscuous, regardless of their orientation. If Stamets were to have a casual relationship, I'm certainly not going to suddenly start believing the stereotype. I'm a gay man and...
The original mention was of the stereotype of promiscuous gay men. I suggested avoiding sex scenes to avoid that stereotype. I'm not sure where your confusion is here.
My reference to avoiding sex scenes was as a way to address UssGlenn's comment that, "On the one hand there is the stereotype of the promiscuous gay man that they will be accused of playing into if they give him casual relationships (even if he has no more than the straight crew)"
I guess the third path is to avoid actual sex scenes, which Star Trek doesn't show anyway. There's literally only been one same-sex kiss in the franchise before. Not that I'd expect anything in the same caliber as "City on the Edge of Forever" (not because of low expectations for Discovery, just...
Jadzia was pretty boring in season one, but once the writers loosened up the character, I think Terry Farrell grew into the role. She eventually became one of my favorite characters.
My only concern if Stamets were to have a husband back home, he's then cut off from romantic entanglement plots (which can be great or awful) and we'd lose that character development. Also, that COULD be construed at "we're willing to have a gay character as long as we don't have to deal with...
I think the TNG pips (and the ones used on Enterprise) would be at least slightly easier to see, given the contrast of the pips against the fabric of the uniforms, while pips on the insignia of the same color would be more difficult. I agree that aboard ship with the smaller crew size, you would...
Rank on the badge doesn't even seem effective -- it just seems so hard to see. In a real life situation, shouldn't rank be more clear so you can actually easily tell who's your superior officer? lol
