What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

TNG didn’t really get better after Gene. It had some higher highs, but it’s lows were as bad or worse. And it got blander, stiffer, and prudish. I watch the first two years of the show more often than others. I much prefer the energy, look, and characters.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Or, maybe, it’s you and in your desire to defend something you like you ignore how it effects and even hurts others. That happens a lot around here too. Just food for thought. No need to write another essay. Believe me, I understand where you’re coming from perfectly well.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

This line speaks in objective terms and feels really dismissive to me. It’s not that it was “emotional”, which is definitely comment on sensitivity. It’s that it was a slap in the face to a portion of the fanbase that worked very hard for that representation since the 70s just to see it...

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Whatever came out of it, I found Culber's murder graphic and exploitive. And it was used over and over again in the "previously" segments. My twitter consists almost exclusively of LGBT trekkies and I have never seen anyone of them feel anything but incensed by that incident. If you want to call...

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 4x01 - "Kobayashi Maru"

I agree with this as well. When I first saw the Fed Prez and that no one wanted her on board I was like "oh no, this is another 'military knows better than civilians' story". And that sucks too. But that doesn't take away from the fact that 31st C federation is bland, aimless, and not a body...

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 4x01 - "Kobayashi Maru"

You mean unlike OldKirk who break the prime directive a half dozen times and once kidnapped a federation leader and had a fist fight with him in a cave full of poison gas? And that’s not even getting into the movies. But you’re right, they didn’t go that way. Instead they went to problematic...

Spoilers Star Trek: Discovery 4x01 - "Kobayashi Maru"

Just from within Discovery's own narrative we've got Lorca, a guy who's official story is he scuttled his own ship and then got a better post, and Saru, a guy with no backbone or leadership skills ever shown getting the same ship. Meanwhile Burnham saved the universe twice and she still needs to...

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x01/02 - "Lost and Found"

Except she did. Of course there was a difference in her behavior between before and after the translator kicked in. Otherwise there wouldn't have been a "twist" concerning what she really is.

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x01/02 - "Lost and Found"

I don't really know what you mean by "butch stereotype". I don't see anything wrong with a large girl even with a child's voice that simply doesn't cross her knees and twiddle her fingers like Shirley Temple.

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x01/02 - "Lost and Found"

Yeah. That's not what I said. It's misogynist to believe that no matter what the outward appearance of a woman, she has to be dainty and meek at heart. This concept feeds directly into that.

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x01/02 - "Lost and Found"

I think it's the internalized misogyny of the writers, but YMMV I don't disagree. One of my goals with my webcomic was to do stories that were from a different perspective than a ship/crew. Out of 10 storylines, only three are the typical starfleet ship setting.

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy 1x01/02 - "Lost and Found"

Prodigy’s concept is neat, and, if this is in the Delta Quadrant it makes sense the federation lost a ship and can’t get it back. But the writing is definitely for smaller kids. I really didn’t like Dal. He feels like a character from a 90’s tween movie and his manner of speaking felt out of...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

So you want movies to reflect the world at it’s dingiest and ignore all the bright stuff? You’re narrowing reality into a little niche that you personally enjoy. That’s a completely subjective take and not reflective of reality at all. Look, say you like gray. No one’s going to debate you on...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

You can like it, but I wouldn’t call it “realism”. The real world has always been fantastic and colorful, and those with means have always wanted to show off their wealth in gaudy ways. Look at any military uniform pre 20th century or what Greek and Egyptian temples looked like before 19th C...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

Ha! I don't always agree with Richard Brody's crotchety old man schpiel, but this time he nailed it. Lynch's film really hangs heavy over this one. Villeneuve seems to purposefully leave out famous lines from the book because they're so linked to the Lynch version. He's really systematic about...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

It’s not fun to sit through for two and a half hours, though. It wasn’t really fun to read either, but in the book there’s enough entertaining description of what’s going on that it kind of makes up for it. I think what Lynch adds to the story is a kind of eccentricity and weirdness that makes...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

Nah, Enterprise was always trash, but I have always liked the Lynch film and so did a lot of people. It’s not called a cult classic for nothing. Talk about robots, Chalamet only has one mode in this film: emo mumbler. The kid is wearing a black trench coat on a lovely spring day like it’s 1998...

    Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

I've read the book and saw the Lynch version a half dozen times. I don't understand how this film, soon to clock in at 5 hours, manages to pack in less story, characters, and empathy than the Lynch film did. It's as if they just took Lynch's film, made it blander, and time stretched it out to...
