According to the making of documentary on the DVDs and Blu-Ray, some men showed up at the BBC and asked about where the VFX team got the submarine. They were told it was a model kit from Woolworths. So the story goes they made some changes to the model and one of the things they inadvertently...

There are the submarine scenes (which allegedly got the BBC into trouble with MI5 at the time), they could be CGI'd.

Couldn't they have updated the VFX at least?

They may not have heard of the name of the Doctor's species or homeworld, but they knew he was a time-travelling alien (except in the original version of the pilot where he & Susan were from the distant future). The Wargames and subsequent stories simply supplied those names.

I would prefer if there weren't season arcs. Yes maintain continuity, but let the stories be episodic, so basically half a dozen two-parters per year with the final two-parter being just that, the final two-parter of the season. I think when you build towards some big, revelatory conclusion it...

Which discs are faulty? I had some sound issues with mine where I had to play something twice for the sound to work but I've had that on other BBC Blu-Rays. I just assume the problem is with my player.
