Not sure if I'll complete the pre-TOS Hyperion above, would probably rather print and build this one, based on the hull shape from https://www.deviantart.com/scifigeek1991/art/Colwin-Class-Utility-Frigate-888304493(but with several changes as seen in the images):
Got sidetracked from my other model for 3D printing with some others that should've only come afterward.
Hope I'll manage to return to the Lincoln class this week.
IIRC the original design for the DY-300 is from Rick Sternbach's illustrations for the Spaceflight Chronology book.
Thanks everyone!
@Professor Moriarty Yes, that's the plan. Though the actual printing won't be until at least next year, when I'm able to move to a new apartment again that will have enough space to take my printers out of mothballs.
I'll maybe even model a few more ships for that until then...
I needed a test subject to improve my skills in modeling for model kit printing and this design by Bernd Schneider of Ex Astris Scientia is a perfect target (though I'm taking liberties to add more details and make it more like something on the shows), since I also have a 1/600 TOS Enterprise in...
Much like the Phase 2 shuttle, it was ahead of its time.
Nowadays, they could just let the shape be 3D printed on industrial machines and take a cast for fiberglass structure.
Had to rework the Shell to fit my new choice in components (preliminary list):
-18500 battery module (takes care of voltage regulation, charging and 5V and 3.3V output
-Arduino Nano
-DFPlayer for audio playback
-passive speaker
-magnets (3x1 round) to hold the shell together
-5V LED strip to...
First print turned out too thin and the fibers in the front/back surfaces didn't fully fuse.
Not sure if it's because I'm not used to working with PETG filament (Ender 3, printed at 230/70°C) or if it's a settings thing.
Around the 2.9 mark, Blender finally fixed its atrocious interface, anything after that is mostly just a never-ending avalanche of useful features.
Just check out Rekkert's Blender work on ArtStation and you'll have more than enough inspiration to get back into it...
Thanks!
Towers to mount the magnets are added, now I just need to get my filament printer back into working order so I can move on to the electronics fun.
Current project is a Lost Era tricorder for 3D printing.
I'd say it's about 33% done.
The design is based on an old 70's walkie talkie and some old sketches before the TNG tricorder got its clamshell design.
