Yes, that's exactly what I said! I said I had blind faith in them all. I didn't say at all that BOTH views are overly simplistic.
Pay attention, indeed...
Oh, and over reaction would be grading a movie before one has viewed it.
True, but that doesn't put it above criticism.
Your cynical reading of these movie reviewers as all being bought and paid for is just as overly simplistic as saying that the role of money and insider status plays no role in movie reviews
Wow. That was exciting! And although I've liked the series so far, I don't think I've ever said that about it until tonight. Great pacing and action throughout the episode. Loved just about everything, especially that the Klingons spoke English, sparing us of the monotony and drone of their...
It felt like it. I looked at the episode length and it was somewhere around 41 minutes. When you take out the previews and credits, it’s got to be under 40. Why on earth do they limit their run times when they are on a streaming site? I’m sure they hope to sell them in syndication someday, but...
So, Star Trek?
Look, this show deserves a lot of criticism, but most shows are going to come off as "sophomoric shit" when compared to The Americans or Breaking Bad.
But then again I wouldn't put Game of Thrones or House of Cards or Dexter on any list of good writing.
It's just a word, but I guess 13 year old me thought it was fucking cool to hear it on Star Trek.
But it did feel like it was more "hey, we can say 'fuck' now on TV!" Welcome to 1999.
No, they don't. Just like Trek has always done with a lot of other things, ignore it when it's not necessary.
The Klingons of TOS bear little resemblance, and I'm talking how they are characterized, to their TNG counterparts.
I liked Stamet's line "I always wanted to converse with my mushrooms!" Almost seemed like banter between people who weren't just trying to be assholes to each other. And Tory, I mean Landry, died! I'm ok with this. Felt really sorry for the beastie, and I hope Burnham grows a conscience about...
Still some clunky dialogue, but there were more hints of how normal people speak. Loved Burnham's "Shit, that worked." Little bits of humor here and there, but this is still trying to be SERIOUS TREK a little too hard. I'm definitely intrigued by what's happening on Discovery, though.
Because her past trauma caused by the Klingons, and what just happened to her Captain, affected her to the point that killing T'Kuvma was revenge. I don't think she thought much beyond a moment of hatred, anger, and vengeance.
