Next Picard novel: Second Self by Una McCormack, coming April 2022

New listings for this turning up. It's set post-season one, so the blurb might be considered mildly spoilery in terms of the characters being more than just off on the La Sirena somewhere: I loved what Una did with Raffi and the Romulans in The Last Best Hope (I loved everything she did in that...

Comics/novels that feel like the films/series?

A few comics spring to mind: IDW's Alien Spotlight: Borg is quite cinematic, both in the epicness of what the Borg are up to, and the very small scale intimate ending. Wildstorm's Voyager: Planet Killer miniseries would have made a fun and nostalgic 2-parter or Voyager movie. IDW's Crew...

    2021 books announced

I like the cover, but share the frustration, especially as this author was brought in as part of an effort to bring a bit more diversity to the Star Trek writing pool; shame the cover doesn't reflect that attempt at greater representation in the real world and in universe - Surely that could...

Trek book recommendations - best of the past 10 years?

Well OP mentioned not being active for 15-20 years, so figured that gave some leeway to mention some of my faves that don't quite make the 10 year bracket ;)

Trek book recommendations - best of the past 10 years?

Also thinking about what's most accessible stand-alone... My favourite recent book is Picard: Last Best Hope, by Una McCormack, which I found very powerful as analogy for several present day problems, and is also great backstory for the TV series that really enriches the viewing; especially for...

    2021 books announced

Hmm, so in the event they go back to do a 23rd century story at some point, do they use the old one for that era? I vote yes for logo-by-era branding!

    My Trek Reading Project

For a straight list of books, there's the excellent Star Trek Lit-Verse Reading Guide, which has a list of all the Pocket Books books, and all the ebook exclusives. For a little more breakdown on each book the old Complete Starfleet Library is my favourite listing of older books, right back to...

The Almighty Lit-verse Flowchart: 2020 Edition

Thrawn downplays his fantastically detailed insights and recall! Such as the delightful suggestion of a 20th century section to collect up the bundle of books that explore that era. Durp, corrected now!

    Comics during relaunch timelines

Alien Spotlight: Andorians is set in the TNG TV era, but makes use of the novel's version of Andorian genders. Out of continuity with the novels, the Borg focused series Hive features the USS Titan, and showed us Christine Vale (not actually named in the text though I think). More...

    2019 Releases

On the ones marketed as The Original Series, of course. Discovery novels, when they eventually deviate from generic cast photos, will surely use the Disco version. I kind of hope The Captain's Oath get updated before publication with whatever ship Kirk is commanding in that book though!

    2019 Releases

Chris mentioned it in a radio interview not long ago, which I transcribed naturally: There was a brief, very very brief mention, in one of the pilot episodes, or one of the first episodes they made, of the command that Captain Kirk had before the starship Enterprise, and the book from 1968, The...

What's going on over at The Trek Collective?

I find it very hard to feel like I'm caught up if I don't catch up on everything, and know how and when it all happened. Which is a bit crazy... This time I'm not caught up on Everything (yet), but made made sure to get books sorted at least :) - For now, I'm sure I'll fill in the other blanks...

    2019 Releases

That just means rather than commissioning an artist to make new artwork they are using the CBS stock promo photos for the Disco covers so far (and why wouldn't they, while Disco is new character recognition is enough to get people interested). The actual design will still be by Simon and...
