    NASA plans manned Mars flyby

How big would something built on the moon need to be seen from earth?

    NASA plans manned Mars flyby

Just out of curiosity, what's the failure rate for unmanned missions to Mars? I know that the Soviets lost a few, and so did the Americans. How many spacecraft that we've sent to Mars actually completed their missions?

Cosmos - With Neil deGrasse Tyson

I didn't think it was anti-religion at all; after all, it did mention that Copernicus was a priest, and that Bruno was hardly an atheist. It seemed more anti-authority than anything, which is a dangerous thing at a time when science speaks with authority. On one hand, you get real breakthroughs...

Cosmos - With Neil deGrasse Tyson

I thought that was pretty incredible. I hope my kids are as inspired by this as I was by the "maiden voyage."

    How to move furniture?

How about renting a cargo van from Enterprise? That can run you as low as $30 for one day. I rented a van to buy some bookshelves and other bulky items from the nearest Ikea (about 300 miles away) and was able to make the trip there and back again in a day. Even if the van ends up costing $60...

Tenth Doctor/Rose cameo in Mr. Peabody & Sherman?

Judging from this trailer, there were certainly a few Doctor Who fans working for Mr. Peabody and Sherman. So was it just my imagination, or was there a brief shot of the Tenth Doctor and Rose towards the end of the movie, when all that mayhem was breaking loose in New York?

    Wiped Episode Discoveries

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Phil Morris?

    Extended Peter Davison interview

This popped up in my Twitter feed today: http://jgoverflow.blogspot.com/2014/02/a-november-2013-interview-with-peter.html It's an extended interview with Peter Davison from late last year. He talks about the 50th, conventions, being the Doctor, and a few other things. I just thought people...

The Day of the Doctore Review Thread (Spoilers?)

I absolutely loved this episode. I'm going to see it in the theater tonight, that's how much I loved it. Schedule permitting, of course.

The Curator.... Who is he? (SPOILERS for "The Day of the Doctor")

At this point, I don't really care what was intended--it was just great to see "my" doctor back on the screen one more time. And the great thing about the show is that even if Steven Moffat gave us an intricately detailed explanation of exactly who Tom Baker was playing there, the fans would...

    The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot

    That was really incredibly fantastic.

    Technological Stagnation

Life is definitely easier with kids if you have a car, at least where I live. Going back to the OP, a few months ago a guy in space (Chris Hadfield) asked a question on Twitter and I answered him in real time. I wouldn't have imagined doing that even ten years ago. I don't think we're...

    Is TAS worth watching?

A thousand times, yes! Even if only to see how many voices James Doohan and Majel Roddenberry do. If you're on the fence, start with "Yesteryear."

TNG episodes where they hang out with species without warp drive

I always had an issue with Picard's line in "First Contact" (TV show) that it was better for contact to take place in a controlled setting (in this case, the scientist's bedroom, after they beamed down unannounced) instead of out in space. I'd be a lot less leery of a aliens that I met in the...

    Was the Traveller Creepy?

I thought that when I first saw it, as a kid of about Wesley's age, on original broadcast, and I still think it. As a teacher, there's a line between showing polite interest/encouraging kids and being a little too attentive. The Traveler way, way crossed that line.

    common misconceptions about Voyager

Is there anyway to get these blurbs come up instead of the actual blurbs when I'm browsing episodes on Netflix? Because I like these a lot, lot better. Though I really do like the TOS Netflix blurb that mentions "a couple of redshirts."

Was Beverly a waste of space?

    I'm sensing great hostility.

    Naomi Wildman is ridiculously cute.

I was impressed that the actress was able to do the technobabble dialogue so well. Better than some of the main cast, IMHO.

    I saw Endeavour!!!

I took my kids to see Endeavour in LA this weekend. The California Science Center itself was great, with plenty of space relics (including Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo capsules/command modules) and lots of other stuff, too. But Endeavour was just...incredible. Those main engines are BIG! And...
