Spoilers TOS: Harm's Way by David Mack Review Thread

That's the same figure I gave in post 125 of this thread. Your determination of where it lies — was that based on the assumption that it’s above or below the galactic ecliptic? What happens if you reverse your assumption?

If that works for you, so be it. When I was writing the story, I pictured Jessica Henwick as Ellory Kayd.

FYI, folks, I just learned that the publication of my Star Trek: Strange New Worlds novel Ring of Fire has been rescheduled for October 7, 2025. Mark your calendars accordingly

    Yeah, that looks about right.

Spoilers TOS: Harm's Way by David Mack Review Thread

I hadn't consciously planned it that way, no. But we'd always meant for it to be waaaaay out there, so that Enterprise could encounter it while limping home from Delta Vega. This latest realization that it would have needed to be far enough +/- the galactic ecliptic plane just reinforces that...

Spoilers TOS: Harm's Way by David Mack Review Thread

Correct. The station was constructed in interstellar space. I won’t even pretend I understand what I’m looking at when I open those links. I see names and numbers and lines, but I’ll have to take your word for it. If you have a copy of Star Charts handy, the position I marked for Starbase...

Spoilers TOS: Harm's Way by David Mack Review Thread

It was a request from my editor, Marco Palmieri, that Starbase 47, aka Starbase Vanguard, be situated fairly far from the Federation’s core systems of 2265–2269, and because of the overall plot of the Vanguard saga, the station needed to be located between the Klingon Empire and the Tholian...

They've always been eligible. The only thing that has kept them off the ballots has been snobbery.

What happened to Star Trek Magazine

Same thing has happened to me. I don’t expect to ever receive my author's copy of Issue #14.

Any new novels still using things from the Litverse?

One of the premises of CODA was that the Prime (canon) and First Splinter (litverse) timelines diverged in 2373 at the moment the Enterprise-E returned through the temporal vortex at the end of Star Trek First Contact. Because Vanguard was set in the 23rd century, it predated the timeline split.

    Author Habits That Annoy You

I recall having similar conversations with Dayton after John left in 2003. Neither of us were sure whether Marco or Margaret would want to keep us involved in the Trek books. Fortunately for us, they both liked our work and kept on hiring us. In recent years I had pitched some project ideas to...

    Margaret Clark (1955-2025)

It was fast. I turned in my latest novel ms. not knowing she was already ill; soon afterward, she was in the hospital. I was trying to work out the logistics to visit her when I got word that she was gone.

    2025 Novel Releases

I‘m sure there’s a fair bit of that up here in the NYC area. That’s part of why Kara and I made sure our insurance policy has coverage to protect us in case of an incident involving an uninsured driver (or an unwitnessed hit-and-run).

    Author Habits That Annoy You

^ All of what Greg said, plus this: With regard to the Star Trek novels’ covers, the editors very kindly took into consideration my cover-art suggestion, which was mostly just telling them which characters got the most focus in the story and therefore made the most sense to have on the cover.

    2025 Novel Releases

We’re both fine. Kara was driving; I wasn't in the car. The impact happened at what I'm told was relatively low speed. No one reported being hurt at the scene, and so far that still seems to be the case — no delayed-reaction whiplash or anything we're aware of. And the good news is that the...

    2025 Novel Releases

I already got yelled at once this week by CBS for answering fan questions about an upcoming project instead of letting PR control the release of information. (Consequently, my and Kara’s Subaru getting T-boned was only the second-worst experience of my week.) Not making that mistake again. ;)

    2025 Novel Releases

This is the closest to correct explanation. I tried to write a non-spoilery blurb, but it’s difficult to properly tease a story if you can’t mention any of its salient elements.
