PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

Does your router actually support 802.11ac, or is it an older standard that can't let devices use the full 400 Mbps? If it's that close, why not just use Ethernet?

Poll Switch 2, yay! Or nay!

No new "killer feature" this time. It's a Switch, but with a better processor and graphics. Yes, you'll need them because game developers will stop releasing games for the original Switch.

News Star Trek: Section 31 Movie with Michelle Yeoh Announced!

I don't remember about Moffat or Chibnall, but RTD has repeatedly said the opposite.

    Family programming, not children's programming.

    Playmates Toys

I can understand the Hood, because they had to do some weird things to the proportions so there'd be room for the figures inside, but I thought the Stargazer was fine. (Pretty sure I still have the complete set down in the basement...)

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

As a whole they're still better than PC gaming - you can still get physical copies that they can't take away from you at a whim, and that you can let others borrow. Only a small handful of PC games are available day one without DRM. (And yes, that may go away in the future, but it hasn't yet...

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

If it runs poorly (<30 FPS) on PC on all settings, sure. But it should be okay if a top-of-the-line PC can't handle it on the highest settings; I see no issue with developers leaving headroom in a game so it looks even better a few years down the road. I think that back when the PS4 Pro...

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

If upscaling is the goal, better to render 1080p and get pixel-perfect upscaling than 1440p and deliberately blur the image.

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

Aiming for 1440p native would be a fool's errand, since nobody has a 1440p display in their living room, and it only scales nicely if you have an ancient 720p display. 1080p and 2160p are the best targets.

They left the normal ones and removed the obsolete ones. :borg:

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

They unlocked the framerate when running the PS4 version on PS5, but it wasn't a full-on PS5 version like Forbidden West got.

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

Don't forget the enhanced and remastered PS4 games. ;) However, nobody was expecting anything different. Having PS5 Pro-exclusive games would just create market confusion. Nintendo saw how well that (didn't) work with the New Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. Any updates to PS5 games will be free...

Hey, I never noticed that before....

In addition to OSHA, the ADA would like to have a word with Starfleet's bridge designers. The flat bridge on Discovery looks wrong, because it's not what we're used to, but it's a lot more accessible than most of its predecessors!

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

I'll happily take, in descending order of preference: a slower framerate (especially with VRR to compensate for fluctuations), lower resolution (1080p is enough, really!), or blurrier old-school upscale, if it avoids generative AI. Sadly, "the image doesn't look like crap" isn't sexy enough for...

PS5 Pro And Other Midgenerational Upgrades

I'm glad I got out of PC gaming before DLSS became a thing. If it becomes non-optional on the next generation of consoles, I'm probably out. I'm not interested in a machine that hallucinates a wrong image.

Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

It probably depends on whether you ask someone who started watching the show pre- or post-2005. Classic series Daleks varied a lot, but for newer fans, his consistency is what they're used to.

    E-Book Pricing Alerts

That's an S&S problem, not an Amazon one, surprisingly. I bought the individual "Aftermath" story directly from S&S's site when it first came out; when I went to redownload it a few years ago, I got the omnibus instead.

    Babylon 5

Right, which is why the plague plot was planned to be wrapped up in season 2. It wasn't all the story was about, just like not all that B5 was about was evident at the start.
