Harsh realities of rewatching Star Trek Voyager

"Beltran himself has no Native ancestry, which is problematic by itself" Considering Beltran's mexican origins, this is most certanly not true. The average mexican is around half native american, genetically speaking. And, honestly, Beltran looks like someone who has such ancestry. Although...

    Mass Effect: ANDROMEDA

The first hour of this game was the closest it came to being a Star Trek simulator. Landing on a unknown planet, first contact protocols, misterious ruins. It was amazing. Then it became a running/driving collectathon simulator. A shame.

Why does skipping to chapter 2 on the dvd's take you several minutes past the opening title?

Probably Disc rot, I have the same issue. Regarding the OP, that has always bothered me. TNG had the same issue on some episodes, I think (bluray fixed it though). On the other hand, I think Voyager doesn't suffer from this. One more reason the series needs to be remastered! (I wish...)

    i'm starting to dig DS9

It would make sense if he purposely underperformed in order to not draw any undesired attention. Same with the preganglionic fiber/postganglionic nerve mistake that prevented him from graduating top of his class. Wasn't that implied in the show?

    i'm starting to dig DS9

Bashir's genetical engineering should have been a very light one, from a disabled person to an average one. In fact, I think that might have been the intention and scenes such as doing complex calculations faster than a computer or having superior eye-hand coordination were mistake. It would...

    Has TNG Aged Well?

The Ensigns of Command wasn't the last episode to use a stage as planet, they kept doing it until the end of the show. In fact, I think Preemptive Strike uses the same set as The Ensigns of Command! What changed was Marvin Rush masterful lighting of those sets. The Inner Light, with the...

Am I only the one who likes the intro montage

It's nice, however... Where are the soviets? Major oversight in space exploration, I would say.

How Can Religion Get Portrayed Like DS9 Again?

I hope it doesn't! I agree with Braga that Star Trek is an atheist mythology (or, at least, should strive to be so). Even in DS9, where people of faith were shown to be good people (and bad, as well), they were all misguided since their gods were simply aliens who didn't even care about them...

If you speak more than one language...

Thankfully dubbing is virtually non-existent in my country, outside of cartoons. I just can't stand it. I have seen in Star Trek in my language (not my regional version though) and it was ridiculous. On the other hand, Star Trek is quite an easy show to watch in english, even without...

    The worst thing about Discovery...

    It would be GLORIOUS!

    The worst thing about Discovery...

Guys and Gals, we're drifting off course here... The point of this thread was to find a way for Star Trek Discovery to fulfil my need to bask in the glory that are Romulus and Cardassia. By perusing the forum I have found a possible and exciting solution: Klingon Empire meets North Korea...

    DS9 on blu ray?

If possible, the effects would simply be rerendered, like in that famous youtube video. If the recreation of these effects is what's stopping the remaster from happening just upscale them, as it was done in the early seasons of Enterprise, Firefly, and a bunch of other science fiction shows...

Speculation about the political situation in DSC

As I said in the forehead thread, this interpretation of the Klingons is growing on me! Hope it is followed!

    Discovery Klingons: Flat or Bumpy?

Yes, please! This will fill the void caused by the probably lack of Romulans and Cardassians, when it comes to quasi-fascists totalitarians! Hail the Klingon Empire! Give them a cleaner look and a more mischievous mind. Keep the ridges. In fact, having rewatched the Enterprise two-parter...

    The worst thing about Discovery...

Then why bother placing the show in the prime universe? Just do a reboot! I wouldn't mind at all. Specially since it would increase the likelyhood of Romulan and Cardassian participation and the presence of their superior form of government and morals.

    The worst thing about Discovery...

No Romulans and no Cardassians... (most likely). Who am I supposed to root for without the presence of my favourite quasi-fascist totalitarians? Will the Klingons fill in that role? If they're written in a similar way to the Original Series I can see that happening. But I fear they will still...

Joe Menosky and Aron Coleite joins writing staff

I'm sorry, but plenty of people agree that episodes such as The Year of Hell, Living Witness and Distant Origin are some of Trek's best, not only Voyager's. Source: Reviewers such as Jammer, Bernd Schneider from Ex Astris Scientia, our very one TheGodBen and the votes cast on...

Was this Wrath Of Khan music?

From what I recall, Horner had some issues with Cameron while composing for Aliens. Seems the latter kept changing his mind when it came to the score. You can see it in the album version of "The Drop", quite different from the movie´s. In the end, I guess Horner just decided to copy his previous...

    The Many Personalities of Janeway

Indeed! Of the situations I mentioned, only her cavalier attitude in "The Swarm" bothered me.

How would you compare the musical scores of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith?

I think he got tired of doing complex and innovative scores for crappy movies and nobody giving a crap about his scores. It's true that sometimes it seems like Goldsmith was simply on auto-pilot. I only felt that from Williams in the lattest Star Wars movie.
