    Worf's Winningest Season

Dear TrekBBS folks, I'm coming up to "Q Who" on WAMTNG next week (Wednesday 29th March), and in writing up the WAM I somehow missed that Worf defeats the first Borg to appear on the Enterprise-D. Correcting this oversight, I make it that his score for season 2 is Worf 2, Aliens 1 (counting the...

    Security Forcefield

Greetings TNG folks! Does anyone know of any earlier appearance of the Security Forcefield in the Enterprise-D's corridors than season 3's "The Bonding"...? I feel like might be one, but I'm drawing a blank.

    Some Season 2 Snippets...

Hey folks, Working on about a dozen WAMs (see my sig) in season two at the moment, and I thought I'd launch a distress buoy for a few issues. Can anyone help with these? 1. Volcano! In "Pen Pals", there are two shots with a volcano, one erupting, one without. This has to be a little studio...

    Trek Wars: Tormé vs Hurley

Hey there knowledgeable-and-friendly Trek folks! I am deep into the WAMs for season two now, which is going reasonably smoothly, while still making final edits and tweaks to the WAMs for the back end of season one, which are running now - Home Soil goes out this Wednesday. (Oh, and if you don't...

The Straleb Ship in "The Outrageous Okona"

Hey folks, Been very busy with my consultancy work, but have been slowly making progress in my research for the season two WAMs, which will start before the end of the year (although I'm still editing the WAMs for the second half of season one... much to do!). However, this week I've been...

    The Other Picard Manoeuvre...

So, the 'Picard Manoeuvre' (or 'maneuver' if you're in the US) where Picard straightens his uniform: anybody know when this first happens? I just started work on the WAM for "Where Silence Has Lease" and spotted 'the other Picard Manoeuvre' in it... I'm not sure I ever spotted it in an earlier...

    Stop Motion Artist for "Conspiracy"...

Just watched "Conspiracy" with my family - my wife is still in shock that they aired this one, but my eldest son loved it! I'm trying to work out the production history of the stop motion special effects sequences for inclusion in the WAM for this episode (which won't run until near the end of...

Source for Enterprise's designation as 'Heavy Cruiser'

Hey classic Trek fans! Can anyone give me an on-screen source for the Enterprise's designation as a 'heavy cruiser' (or any other Constitution class vessel for that matter)? I have plenty of secondary materials that support this designation, but I am scratching my head to remember any time that...

Fencing in "We'll Always Have Paris"

Does anyone have any behind-the-scenes info about Dan Kern's fencing scene with Patrick Stewart at the start of "We'll Always Have Paris"? The screenplay has this scene between Riker and Picard, which suggests that Kern was used because he could fence, while Jonathan Frakes presumably doesn't...

When exactly was the writer's strike...?

Coming close to the end of my family's watching of season 1, and looking at sorting out the research for the WAMs that will go with these episodes. (Watching the shows is the easy part of writing these newsletters!) As I'm sure we're all aware, the Writer's Guild of America went on strike in...

Anyone have an official source for the Acting Ensign Uniform...?

As you may know, it has become accepted that this monstrous turtleneck is the official Starfleet Acting Ensign uniform: However, I have been unable to find an official source for this explanation. It certainly isn't given any on screen credence, and the script for "The Battle" (where it first...

    Matte versus Maquette

Note: ignore 'maquette' in title... this should say 'model'. Hailing frequencies open! I am wondering if anyone can help me solve a mystery that has been perplexing me since I started writing WAMTNG. As you may know, I'm putting out a weekly Substack newsletter focussing on the Words (W)...

Is T'Shanik the first Vulcan in TNG...?

Given Roddenberry's insistence on no Vulcan stories, is T'Shanik in "Coming of Age" the first Vulcan to appear in TNG? Or just the first named Vulcan to appear? I ask, because I don't remember if there was (for instance) a random Vulcan seen at Starbase 74 in "11001001" or indeed somewhere...

How Long was the Type 7 Shuttlecraft Model...?

"Computer, how long was the studio miniature of the Type 7 Shuttlecraft?" The full size of the shuttle was supposed to be 8.5 metres, so knowing what scale was used would also give us the answer. I've looked around, but nobody seems to have this datum!
