    Enterprise NCC-01

ST precedent was with the Excelsior as NX-2000, experimental vessel. When Excelsior later went into service, we see NCC-2000. Makes sense. Then we see Enterprise as NX-01, using the NX again to denote experimental vessel. Fair enough, new warp five engine and all that. But then the...

    Starship chess

So I’ve been thinking about Starship Chess, with chess pieces represented by various starships. I’m thinking mainly TNG era because there is more of a variety of ships. Can you help me out with suggestions? The Pawns could be Runabouts or shuttles (maybe even Workbees) The King could be...

    TWOK What If--Khan wins

Let us imagine that Khan wins in TWOK. He gets his hands on the Reliant and the Genesis Device. He gets lucky in the Mutara battle and destroys the Enterprise, killing Kirk. Khan wins final vengeance. Then what? What is Khan's plan? What does he do next? Announce to the Federation his...

    Shelby

It's been decades and I've watched BOBW dozens of times. So why did I just notice that Shelby doesn't have a first name? Such an important character in TNG... I thought for sure she had a full name... Then I stopped to think about it. Nope, she doesn't. I coulda swore I knew her name...

    3D Checkers

So I was looking at some TOS screencaps over at TrekCore. "The Alternative Factor" Screencaps Page Five http://tos.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/1x27/The_Alternative_Factor_118.JPG A Rec Room scene with the familiar Tri-Dimensional Chess we've seen many times. But across the room I noticed a 3D...

    Is IDIC illogical?

IDIC, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Isn't that illogical? Not the concept or philosophy, just the wording. If the diversity is infinite, doesn't that already imply every infinite combination? Aren't two "infinites" redundant? Is that illogical phrasing?

    No baggage/luggage in the 24th c?

Just a thought I had, and yet was never really seen in practice in the series. In TNG era, replicators are in widespread use. If one is moving between locales with replicators, wouldn't that eliminate the need for luggage or baggage when traveling or moving? Rather than a suitcase or bag...

    Dinosaur questions

Did different types of dinosaurs interbreed, the way dogs and horses and other animals do today? Could there have been a horse+donkey=mule equivalent amongst dinosaurs? Or some other combinations? ??? ??? ???

    red alert

I suppose this happens in all the series, but TNG pops in my head when I think of this... Someone (usually Riker) calls for Red Alert. And he'll shout "Red Alert! Shields up! Arm all phasers, load all torpedo bays!" and so on. But isn't the purpose of saying "Red Alert" a shorthand way of...

    Antares in "Charlie X"

I was just watching the eps and within the first few opening scenes, the Antares is referred to as: "cargo vessel Antares" then "transport ship" then "science probe vessel" then "survey ship" So Antares was a cargo/transport science survey probe vessel? Or someone couldn't make up his mind or...

    Abrams in NYTimes

NYTimes Quotation of the Day "When you put the glasses on, everything gets dim." J. J. ABRAMS, director of the two-dimensional “Star Trek,” on why he has resisted the growing trend of making movies in 3-D. ...so JJ resists 3D because it messes with his lens flare. I don't really care...

    Guinan in "Q Who"

Yes, it was just on television so now I'm talking about it. And yes, it is a great eps, I love it. But what's the deal with Guinan? Q flings the Enterprise into Borg space, and she knows it. And she knows about the Borg. When Picard first asks her for help, she warns that they should start...

    lucky TOS fans

I was just thinking, so now I'm just typing... TOS fans are pretty lucky we got all the original cast for all the films that we did. Over the decades since the series, so many possibilities could have come up-- cast members not wanting to return, death, other incapacity, money disputes...

    Galileo Seven complement--why?

The Galileo 7 was dispatched to study the Murasaki quasar. Why send the seven crew we saw? Spock, Latimer, McCoy, Scott, Boma, Gaetano, Mears. Okay, Spock as mission commander and chief science officer is a natural choice. Latimer as command pilot. Boma wore blue, another scientist for the...
