Jenna Coleman interview in the Guardian

It's a nice piece, charting her career from the start to now with "Victoria." It has a few Who tidbits. She talks about Capaldi and dealing with fans, and there's an amusing on-set anecdote regarding another actor. Every time she talks about Capaldi, you really get the sense that they adored...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Discussion (HERE THERE BE SPOILERS)

Since it opens around the world in a few hours, here's the review thread. Is JJ our new savior? Did it suck so bad you'd rather listen to endless monologues about how sand gets everywhere? Have at it. Spoilers.

#ThatDress, or why I so strongly dislike social media

I debated for awhile before posting this, since I've largely grown out of posting rants on the internet, but this issue just pushed me over the top. I am 30 years old. I was in college when Facebook came on the scene. Back then, I boycotted it. I finally gave in in 2007, when my friends...

The Winds of War/War & Remembrance

I'll be surprised if this thread gets any replies, but....does anyone remember these? In in the middle of a binge watch of these sprawling mini-series. In the second part ("The Final Chapter") of War & Remembrance now. I have to say....despite an overall '80s soapy feeling to the whole thing...

Did this slip under the radar? "Doctor Who Parody"

Just ran across this on Youtube. Very well done fanmade musical number that is a "parody" I guess? Anyway, I'm really impressed with all the work that went into this. Even watching the behind the scenes video it's amazing how they put it all together, doing all that work for a 7-minute...

If Doctor Who was an American show from the beginning

A friend of mine just sent this. Some interesting choices in the casting list. Weird in an alternate universe way. http://www.buzzfeed.com/newu456/what-if-doctor-who-was-american-5pxx

    DTV transition and High Definition

I didn't know whether to put this here or in Sci/Tech, so..... Okay, so we have shiny a new 40" HDTV at home. Despite warnings from myself and my brother, my dad didn't get an HD service and was pissed off when only the air channels were HD our basic cable channels were ugly on the new TV...

    Great Books of the 19th, 20th, & 21st Century...

....That aren't on the usual "lists." What I mean is, in general: no Dickens, Henry James, James Joyce, or other "obvious" entries. Nothing that would be on a school summer reading list (1984, Brave New World, Atlas Shrugged, Old Man & The Sea, Great Gatsby, or similar) and nothing in Oprah's...

    Biographies?

No doubt this has been brought up before, so pardon me, but would this work for Trek literature? I know that many elements in books delve into characters' pasts and there have been so many books and so much information that publishing character biographies would probably tread on ground already...
