    Is Deep Space Nine racist?

A friend (well, twitter-friend I guess) was up to S3 of DS9 and declared he thinks the show is racist. I disagreed *generally* but he made some excellent points, many of which I agree with. I storify'd the dialogue (he's James, I am Destructor)...

This passage hurt my brain a little

The briefing room doesn't need a turbolift to get to from the bridge, right? It's right behind the bridge, you just walk through a door. It's like saying they took a turbolift from the bridge to Picard's office.

Bryan Fuller posts tweet with images of Prime timeline ships

I assume you've all seen this: https://twitter.com/BryanFuller/status/730247064202792960 I know we shouldn't read too much into this but I assume they put this into the writer's room for a reason?!?

    LEGO Star Trek

My wife and I are a bit fan of Traveller's Tales LEGO series. We were just playing LEGO Dimensions the other day and enjoying the ways loads of pop culture properties were interacting, and it suddenly hit me what a waste it was to not have a LEGO Star Trek game. It would fit so well, beaming in...

Is Janeway an example of the 'mother bitch woman in power' trope?

Okay... so I'm chatting on Facebook with a mate about BSG. A friend of his chimes in to say: She was writing to say she gave up on BSG after the first episode, and when she uses the 'mother bitch woman in power trope' she is referring to Roslin. I disagree with the analysis, but after one...

Why doesn't Janeway recognize the Krenim?

Is there an in-universe* reason why, at the start of 'Year of Hell', Janeway doesn't recognize the Krenim when they first encounter them, given that she had been given a report by Kes that mentioned they would encounter them in the next year and that it would be a devastating encounter? (*I...

Should I get The Banner Saga on iPad?

I got the free 'multi-player only' version of this game on Steam and it was... fine, I guess. I hear the SP version is better, but is it worth shelling $13 out for? Keeping in mind I'm mainly a console gamer and don't play a lot of games (other than Hearthstone) on my iPad.

    Attack Wing!

Had a game of this the other night- pretty fun. Lots of special moves, a lot of character. Am disappointed by the model quality- the three ships that come with the starter set are just terrible. But apart from that it seemed a lot of fun. Anyone else played this?

    What could have improved 'Insurrection'?

I am going to watch Insurrection with some friends tonight and so I was thinking a few thoughts: 1. Did anyone else read the book by Michael Piller about the making of STIX? It was really interesting, but also frustrating because they had a lot of really good ideas for the film that...

    Wait, did this movie [SPOILER]

Apologies if this is a repeat thread, but won't it be difficult to maintain tension in the third film if, whenever someone dies, they can just pull Kahn out of the old freezerino and reanimate whoever kicks the bucket? For that matter, isn't the ability to cure death, in general, something of a...

Typhon Pact: Should I keep going?

Hello fellow readers, I took a bit of a break from TrekLit after finishing the Destiny trilogy- I thought it was great, but after pounding through the TNG relaunch and all of the Titan books up to that point, I needed a little breather. So I had my breather, and got back into it by reading...

ME3: The argument for/against Indoctrination Theory (Spoilers)

[COMPLETE SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU'VE NOT FINISHED MASS EFFECT 3] So, I finished ME3 last Wednesday, and was, like many of you, a bit underwhelmed and confused about the ending. Even if I didn't think it was terrible enough to justify the ridiculous outrage from fans that I had been hearing...

It's time for '25th Anniversary' and 'Judgment Rites' to come to iPad

With the release of other point-and-click games like Swords and Sworcery and Monkey Island 1+2 on the iPad (and even Baldur's Gate has been announced!), it seems that the point-and-click adventure game it a natural fit to the touchscreen of the iPad. So it seems like a no brainer to release...

I read the first IDW Star Trek Ongoing

...and was not impressed. It was the one which recreated the very first Star Trek episode. Should I keep reading these? Do they get better? I guess I was hoping they'd use the episodes to springboard new ideas and interpretations, not just retread them. I love the idea of it but I just wasn't...

    Starfleet regulations on interspecies mixing

Was watching 'The Disease' with my wife and we were both laughing about all the regulations Harry was supposedly breaking by getting it on with a hot alien babe. Had Janeway never heard of Kirk, or Riker?

Need a youtube clip of Worf saying: "Romulan ale should be illegal"

Hi fellow fans, I am on the lookout of a youtube clip of the scene from 'Nemesis' where Worf says to Geordi: "Romulan ale should be illegal." and Geordi replies: "It is." Does anyone know if this exists, or have the tools to create it if not? Many thanks!

What are your top 5 songs of 2011

I was just voting in the Triple J hottest 100 and, as usual, I felt a bit sad about how little new music I'd consumed this year, so I thought I'd do a whip around the ol' TrekBBS and see what you guys had been listening to. The rules are you can't vote for the same band twice. It may well be...

Why would the 'old Kim' timeline be erased in 'Timeless'

In 'Timeless', which is a great ep that I watched again last night, Kim says something like: "If we'd changed history, we wouldn't still be here trying to change it!" This struck me as odd when I watched it on first broadcast (many years ago now!) but it's even odder now that the new Star...
