Something inspired by March art contest.

Borgman's entry into the March art contest inspired me to come up with this little work in progress. It's a "kitbash" based off of Maseo's Avenger class. I'm working on it mostly because I like the "in universe" reason for it's appearance. Don't know how far I'll develop it. Probably just...

The Best Thing You Ever Ate?

Inspired by the tv show on Cooking Network, I thought we could do our own take on this. To set some ground rules and to keep the thread from becoming just a series of lists: 1. Limit yourself to one entry per post and allow someone else to post before you add another entry. 2. Try to include...

What small but overly indulgent thing would you like to own?

As the title says, what would you want? Not talking the obvious stuff like cars, mansions, yachts, but the little things. Me? I've always wanted a slurpee machine. I love slurpees and if I ever win big in a lottery I'll have one installed in the dream house with someone to keep it running. At...

Elon and SpaceX outline thier plans to go to Mars!

Wow, that is one big rocket! And they've already started engine tests and built prototype tankage!

Stars Publicly Campaigning for a Role

I was thinking. (yeah, make your jokes now) Are there any good examples of stars campaigning to get specific parts that ever turned out well? The earliest and most embarrassing example I can think of is Sean Young trying to get the part of Catwoman back during the Tim Burton films. She...

    Cooking tips/tricks/shortcuts for the non-foody.

Thought I would start a thread where we can leave ideas and common techniques we use in our cooking. This is meant more for those that aren't culinary experts that know when not to use truffle oil but more for the every day shmoe like me. Don't get me wrong, I love cooking shows. I just...

Fear the Walking Dead Season 1 discussion and spoilers.

Thought it was about time we had a season thread for this now that we are less than a week out. Random thought just to get started. Anyone else think the one son looks a lot like Brandon Lee from The Crow? I think it may be mostly the hair and that church they keep showing him in, but he...

What movie WOULD you like to see remade?

Yeah, we all complain about great movies that get remade into not so great movies, so how about the other way around? What movies do you think could be turned into something great if given a modern redo? One I'd like to see is a remake of John Wayne's The Quiet Man. As it stands it's nearly a...

Legends with Sean Bean on TNT

Anybody catch the premiere of this tonight? I laughed when they managed to get Ali Larter into a stripper costume that quick.

Question about Wolverine in the comics.

I haven't read any comics in about 15 years and I don't think this was ever explored back then. In the comics, Wolverine's healing ability has been so powerful at some points that he has regenerated back from pretty near nothing. Have they ever done a story line where parts of his body...

Twizzlers Enterprise - is it canon?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciUaKEiZQu8 Well. it's video footage on tv licensed by CBS/Paramount. Do we now have to worry about how many pieces of licorice it takes to construction a Federation cruiser?

The "small english town" genre of movies

I personally noticed this trend a few years ago that there were enough movies of the type to actually be it's own genre. I like these movies because as a closet anglophile they give a romanticized picture of what it would be like to live in a small quiet town somewhere in England. In the genre...

Looking for a movie I once saw.

OK, this is a tough one. I saw it as a kid in the theater in the mid to late 70's. I don't remember much, it was a bit of a "B" movie. Anyway, here's the details I do remember: A grandpa type character has built a modern architecture type house in the desert (american south west I think) and...

    Broadchurch on BBCA

Anyone catch this on BBC America last night? Seems to be another well done series from Britain. David Tennant seems to be having fun in the role of the DI in charge of the case. My only reservation is I see strong similarities to The Killing's first season.

Alcubierre Drive - A thought excercise.

I was thinking about this today and thought it might make an interesting topic. Basing this on the supposition that we make a working Alcubierre drive that doesn't get everyone killed automatically, we still have a problem. Let me prestate first that to my understanding the Alcubierre drive...

Pacific Rim - Grading and Discussion

    Falling Skies - New Season

So, I just saw a trailer for the new season and it doesn't look promising. They're going with the trope-stereotypical special baby storyline that always seems to crop up in these shows.

Lockheed-Martin Skunkworks - game changing fusion project!

Now this is interesting. Watch the attached video. Wish he had mentioned some of the hurdles they have ahead of them. http://nextbigfuture.com/2013/02/new-google-solve-for-x-lockheed.html

    HGTV?

OK, I admit, I like watching HGTV and seeing cool interior designs. The thing I've noticed lately is it seems HGTV has banished a lot of it's designers. Every time I turn the channel on now it seems to be Love it or List and Property Brothers. Is the channel in the middle of a revamp?
