    The Classic/Retro Pop Culture Thread

50 Years Ago This Week August 17 Two auto racing legends were fatally injured on the same day, thousands of miles apart. Tiny Lund, who had won the 1963 Daytona 500, was killed in a six car pileup while competing in NASCAR's Talladega 500 car race in Alabama. Earlier in the day, Mark Donohue...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x06 - "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail"

Effectively creepy crowds, I might add. That episode is a real dud, but the visuals and ambient sound effects were just first rate atmospheric spicing.

Spoilers Alien Earth (2025 Hulu show)

First R rated movie I ever snuck into was Heavy Metal, the drive-in's ticket box always shut down halfway thru the first feature, so if you didn't care enough to watch that one, you could drive in later. Now it's a Supercenter 🤬🤮

The James Bond Film Discussion Thread (With Bonus Lazenby!)

Unfortunately, every report I'm reading online says that Bezos wants her "front and center" as the next Bond girl and he's really pushing it to the point that the producers and director are angry with him. Edit to add. This is the same individual who had a part in making the new War of the...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x06 - "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail"

This episode is Kirk getting an audition for his ship and show, and the question of if a Kirk continuation would work is answered with a resounding: YES! It's the show's first 9 rating of the season from me. I like just about everything here, so I'll focus on the one puzzling thing: The...

Spoilers Alien Earth (2025 Hulu show)

It was the second R rated movie I snuck into (as I was under 17) and yeah, it was DEFINITELY more of a Horror film then a science fiction film. the SF elements were just a setting. Just like ALIENS was really an action film more than either Sci Fi or Horror.

Is it time to put Star Trek to rest?

Maybe not, but I won't watch it. I'm tired of seeing those rebooted characters played by..........well, let's say "actors who aren't as good as the originals". Most of them don't even look like the original actors and characters, like that one who looked like my school buddy Thomas and not like...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x05 - "Through the Lens of Time"

What IS the mortality rate for established cast members? (rhetorical question). In most military hierarchies, people get promoted, retire, get medically discharged, KIA etc. There is no way a crew stays in the positions of our cast that long, not when there is an opportunity for extended...

Spoilers A Complete (I Hope) DISCO Rewatch

Interesting, will keep looking back at this. Read the first 2. Wow, much more in depth than I even think I have the time for. Impressive. There are a lot of little things that people didn't pick up on and that were also elaborated on by the writers and producers as the whole whirlwind if...

Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Cable got "Greedy" with their bundling of TV Channels instead of going for a pure "A La Carte" model which they REFUSE and lobbied against. For years, everybody was trying to get them to change, so people would at least stay with Cable and pick the channels they wanted. But NOOOO, they must...

Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Don't disagree with the burning. But I think its largely too late for changing the broadcast model. Both broadcast and cable viewership numbers are way down. Link Some sources are even reporting that viewership on broadcast dipped below 20% for the first time. If that trend continues, there will...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x06 - "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail"

I noticed that too. The dialog and direction seemed a bit off at points. Some of the subtle humor didn't land as it should. Not awful but flat.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x06 - "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail"

Not sure what's odd about that. Say they had 150 people on the initial mission, and then had a 2% annual population growth rate. 7,000 descendants in two centuries is totally doable.
