Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Go rewatch TOS because in TOS all the Vulcans we saw were Jerks Sarek - Haughty jerk who even lies to his wife. Was even more of a jerk in STIII:TSFS when he came to visit Kirk on Earth as he completely jumped to conclusions prior to the encounter. T'Pau - Dislikes humans immensely and looks...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I saw it as the joke being on the 'fake' Vulcans for being assholes. The genuine Vulcans in the episode, Spock and Doug were decent people. Perhaps having all four as arrogant pricks was a bit over the top, but I doubt, even with a fictional race, ALL Vulcans are stoic, wise and intelligent...

Why do you think TNG has a less than... stellar record when it comes to comedy?

nailed it....as stated in another thread, you have to expand the characters personalities in order to create or find humor...in seasons one and two everyone was still too stiff for there to be any sort of humor...but in later seasons the humor became character specific, meaning different types...

    How big was the Enterprise?

Close! The discernible versus readable thing is interesting but there is one more layer to it. If something isn't perfectly readable but can be discerned to within a set of one, then it is perfectly reasonable to treat it as canon. If the set of possibilities is larger, then it is not so...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

...of "Children of the Comet" and "Memento Mori" but at this point the show's spent so much time making lame Star Trek references and boring-ass jokes that the entire thing feels totally hollow. It wants to emulate episodic storytelling but doesn't seem to understand what worked so well about...

    How big was the Enterprise?

..."facts" that may or may not eventually become official. These 2 points are in opposition. You have a subjective standard on what bits are jokes, shortcuts, or gospel. While that might seem an easy thing to discern, it's still a subjective call. Memory Alpha thinks a man named Gene...

    How big was the Enterprise?

...scale, which is what scales are for. If it was just gibberish then there would have been no reason for non-gibberish like "SCALE IN FEET". In-jokes are in-jokes. Half-assery is half-assery. Work well done is work well done. Confounding those to obfuscate the visible reality is icky...

Why do you think TNG has a less than... stellar record when it comes to comedy?

...but has some very funny moments. Deja Q again, a serious premise, but so funny. Schisms, Disaster, Relics all have funny moments. The dirtiest joke (and I find it funny) has to be Riker in "The Perfect Mate", when Riker escorts the empath metamorph lady to her quarters and he resists her...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

They named the planet for a sandwich shop for the sake of one throwaway joke that probably 95% of viewers wouldn't get, so yeah, I'd say you are correct about "Doug."

    How big was the Enterprise?

...the original diagram. That's not what is being argued. This is the salient point. If 947 feet is ironclad then so are all the production in jokes. The scale is there to give the graphic extra "texture" not to convey information, just like putting gibberish numbers on a lcars display, or...

DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

@Christopher, SEVERAL of us have commented over the years how you don;t get the joke that the REST OF US got. At times you are like COmmander Data or an alien that doesn't get a human joke. But then, when someone points out a mistake (wher ein not getting a joke, or some other point of...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Quite agree. The vulcans are becoming the butt of jokes. As bad as the ferengi. Its getting tiring. Spock smiling after again at the end. Enough. TOS had some comedy but it didnt feel as farcical or exhausting as the comedy we get in SNW. Also we had 79 eps of TOS and only a couple humorous...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Code of Honor is actually a much better episode than this. It at least has a plot and story. This is just the same joke again and again and again. Episodes with causality loops had less repetition.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I feel like 50% of SNWs entire runtime has just been the same joke about Vulcans over and over.

This makes me wonder if Khans are genetically evil and it's in their DNA to want to become dictators, based on what happened.

...of belugas, and the dance/fight combo was creative and well performed. But I'm more and more expecting the realization of an ENT April's fools joke where they said the next episode will feature Archer and Porthos swapping heads :D Thank god they put this in: And this should've been...

    Opinions on the remastered versions

For the most part I love the new effects. It wasn't outlandish. In some places I wouldn't mind a little better even. Me and my wife have a running joke when TOS remastered is on H&I and will say "pretty good SFX for 1966" (most notably on the Galileo 7 shuttle sequences.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I mean the episode is about how being human is not inferior to Vulcan even if they have better abilities. Which is the point. Being smarter or stronger is not better. Because what makes a person valuable is not how efficient or powerful or strong. Its a great anti-abelism message. And yes...

...same thing to him in this episode. They repeatedly mistreat him for being half-human at every turn in this episode and it is played as a big joke. "The away team is only 4.5 Vulcans because you are only half Vulcan, Spock, you are inferior to us and not a real Vulcan like us that took a magic...
