Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

And according to the DS9 Companion (via M-A), the first time his first name is said on screen, it was written as a joke: Though I'm not sure what the joke is, was Odo just making up a name for him?

    The General Knight Rider thread.

And the stunts! Joking aside, tastes have changed. Viewers are more demanding. For example, they should explain why they use an indestructible material that could potentially save thousands of lives to, say, prevent someone from using a beauty pageant as a cover for smuggling jewelry.

    How big was the Enterprise?

I know, it was a joke.;)

    How big was the Enterprise?

I haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if this has Been brought up, but in regards the "northerner" thing, this was an inside joke based on a jest GR made way back when ST: TMP first introduced the (then) new Klingons, saying that the old ones were southern Klingons and the new ones were...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

I thought this was a pretty dumb joke. Then he started listing his siblings and I almost spit out my drink. :) You know, buried in all of the frivolity were two major character bits that they just waltzed past. (And could have been anchors for their own episode or more of this one.) When Spock...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

The contraction thing is just a joke referencing the old sci-fi trope that aliens never use contractions, of which Vulcans have already been presented to adhere to that trope. So here, they have fun with the trope by showing Doug completely unable to understand how to even use a contraction...

    The Maple Leaf Lounge

No, I wouldn't exactly describe it as enjoyable that's for sure. It also feels very claustrophobic, which may be part of the point. Still, I think it's an interesting watch in terms of its history. I think it's the visuals from that movie that Apple based its first commercial on. The 1966 movie...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Kirk: Leave any bigotry in your quarters. There's no room for it on the Bridge Mr. Styles. Styles: Even aside from all the tasteless speciest jokes you let Dr. McCoy make, did not former security chief La'an Noonien Singh immediately try to take over the ship, start a war, and personally...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x07 - "What Is Starfleet?"

Sarah April! Yeah, you would have thought there were a couple of ways they could use her. Why does her husband get to have all the fun?

Does Spock (Ethan Peck) ever say fascinating on Strange New Worlds or Discovery just like he (Leonard Nimoy) said the phrase on the original series?

I've noticed the more formal sounding pronunciation of "the" and the "sens-oars" this season too. I've also noticed other characters besides Spock doing the "sens-oars" thing. Probably a tongue-in-cheek joke.

...and think he improves any episode, but also because it's genuinely funny at this point how half-arsed the excuses to have him show up are. They might as well capitalise on it and make it a running joke; every week Kirk arrives with increasingly vague explanations as to why he happens to be...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

She shouldn't know Romulans look like Vulcans is the point Tuskin is making. At no time does Sera look like a Romulan in the episode. Now it's possible Sera's ear joke and green blood might make La'An think Romulans and Vulcans are related.

...about the universe which I guess makes sense when your job is constantly on the move unless you're just dating your fellow crew. Sam being missing every time he comes aboard is starting to become a bit of a running joke, but that bothers me more than Kirk showing up. I want them to interact...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

Yeah I get that. The 4 Vulcans just felt too much like over the top caricatures and stereotypes for me. I think that turned me off from the episode.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 3x08 - "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans"

...when they were heading to Vic's. This was clearly a comedy episode... or at least, it was trying to be. Trying TOO hard to be one. Most of the jokes fell flat. It felt too forced. The funniest bits were subtle things that weren't even dialogue... like Pike taking Batel's sorbet. (Credit to...

Barbara Eden on Why Jeannie and Tony Were Never Intimate: "She was an entity"

That's my point -- the title of the show is itself a joke, a pun on "genie" and the opening line of Stephen Foster's song "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair," so if they'd extended the joke as one would expect, then Jeannie would have had light brown hair. Instead, they let Barbara Eden stay blonde.

The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

...there was supposed to be one a few years ago with Robin as the villain and the Sheriff as the hero. Christian Bale was to be Robin, leading to jokes that he would now have played Batman and Robin. I think this may have gradually transformed into the Ridley Scott/ Russell Crowe one. Pretty...
