Do people under 40 care about Star Trek?

...before 5 or 10 years ago. Make sure no one feels alienated and everyone is able to appreciate the big emotional moments, shocking reveals and jokes, not just veteran fans. But I also think that the writers should be giving new viewers reasons to care about things from before 5 or 10 years...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2x03 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"

??? La'an and Kirk literally talk about bribing the border guard in the first scene set in Vermont. Indeed, you even said you "rolled your eyes" over that line back in July 2023:

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2x03 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"

Yup, I recall that. I live further west so crossing over is easier. No towns.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2x03 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"

Sometime between when the NYT 2018 picture and Sept 2024 they added some pedestals to put the potted plants on. Google maps street view looking up Church Street from Derby Line, VT to Stanstead, Quebec.

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2x03 - "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow"

Not sure about today but just within a few years ago, The US/Canada border between Stanstead Quebec, and Derbyline Vermont was separated literally by a sidewalk and a row of potted plants. No Joke. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/12/us/canada-usa-border.html

Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

The differences are because one show was filmed in the mid-sixties and the other is recorded in the 2020's.

Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

This personal sniping needs to stop now. I realize this is a debate that nobody can really win, and I'll post some of my own thoughts separately. But I want everyone in the thread to settle down a bit. Speaking only for myself, I'm in general agreement with a lot of this. ;) I think SNW does...

LD: USS Cerritos Crew Handbook by Chris Farnell

...how far I've gotten through the series. The idea of going to the expense of such a beautiful binding for inherently silly material may be an in-joke in itself. Or it could be simply a concession to the likelihood that an adhesive binding might tend to self-destruct rather rapidly, given the...

Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

That's literally the opposite of how you presented it. I didn't think I needed to explain that the rest of the page also contained an obvious joke at one point, incorrectly assuming you were not that desperate for something to throw at me. ... a quote from a hypothetical.

Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

I think I read this exact same post in response to the aesthetic changes made in Star Trek the motion picture back in 1979. All this has happened before and all this will happen again. And again. And again. It was tiresome then, as well.

Long delayed Red Sonja movie being released in August.

...at least they put some effort and imagination in the costume and set designs. Also, that "self-aware" bit at the end, making fun of how the character dresses in the source material? Luke Cage was the last time that joke was funny. We get it, the chain-bikini doesn't work in live-action, move on.

Transition and explanation of SNW into TOS technology

Speaking of "nonsense" . . . I mean, if I were to reply in kind, I'd ask how you even saw the different actors back then, Stevie. Maybe go back to singing about your part-time love of continuity? Joking aside, you are welcome to spend the mental effort on active denial of the visible...

    Things that frustrate us all

The sister who calls me today to tell me about all of all of her problems during her drive home. I listen, crack a joke or two, offer some advise and commiserate. Not once does she ever ask how I am or what I'm doing. Never has.

    Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

There's an understandable wish for modern audiences to not have to deal with jokes that aren't funny anymore for very good reasons, or slurs that were once laughed off but aren't anymore, and so on. Only the viewer or reader can decide how far they're willing to put up with whatever the...

    Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

...This has been happening with some old Disney cartoons as well I believe. And I think it's a good idea. Over the decades, media has seen jokes that were ALWAYS offensive but people said it's all ok because we all do it. And many minorities said nothing, because they were not taken seriously...

    Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

Only 3 of them had the "_____ of Dune" title. Of course I'm talking about the real novels, not the nuDune garbage.

    Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

I know people like to make jokes about all the "_____ of Dune" titles used for the novels, but damn it those are a bit more creative than just calling each movie "Part #"

Ok, just to be clear, was it implied that literal orgies were happening in "Naked Now" or am I being malicious?!?

There's one scene that all but shows man-bits, which was daring in 1987 - albeit superficially as the story feels too much a retread of "The Naked Now" but only to make it EDGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! It's really more LAUGHABLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY BAAAAAAD! A missed opportunity for sure, but could the...

...had to remove the numbers. Can't get it to work either way. Now there is no code to edit. SOOO... I decided to quote my first Tuvok fart joke, but that required finding it. Would you believe it's been OVER FIVE YEARS since the first Tuvok fart joke I made? I didn't find it, gave up --...

Stuff they avoided telling us about Han Solo

...phenomenon that I can't get restaurants to record my name correctly on orders. There's one in particular that has put my name down as CJ, DJ, EJ, PJ, and TJ, but not BJ! Either their software won't let them, or they're scared to put down what they think is a "joke" name in the system...
