    Adam Kotsko, Late Star Trek

...a year of subscribing I left the sub because 1) they are too much focused on producing convoluted in-universe theories, and 2) they don't allow jokes!) Thus he is the kind of person some call an "aca-fan." As an academic and a fan myself, I have read a lot of aca-fan work and seen a lot of...

...formulas are generally about personal survival or revenge rather than selfless rescue of others, so you get things like Batman '89 where the Joker is retconned into the killer of Bruce's parents so that it becomes a personal revenge story, or the 2005 Fantastic Four movie where the climactic...

I feel like even Batman’s code against killing may be a bit overstated. I don’t read many Batman comics, but one I did read not long ago was

How are planets defended in Star Trek?

No, that would ruin the joke.

The Meaning of Kirk's Last Orders?

Kirk addresses their penchant for argument in the message, but even if McCoy was prone to outbursts, Spock was not. So there would be no "mortal combat" to be locked in: those are the key words "locked in mortal combat." That's not these guys. Spock would just shut it down. Like he did with...

I don’t agree that Kara doesn’t start out as a hero in the source material. She’s the same established Supergirl as in any other contemporary comic, just painted with rougher edges and deeper pain by dint of writer’s discretion. By the same token, she doesn’t learn to be a hero in the course of...

...the Supergirl movie because it is going to be something completely different than what we've seen in a superhero movie before. (And I'm not just talking about bestiality*.) * I don't remember if that actually happens in Woman of Tomorrow -- I was just making a joke about an element in the comic.

Luthor Corp originally seen in Smallville is named after Lionel Luthor. Lex would not have a bar of that.

LexCorp or LuthorCorp - Both are just contractions of the real longer name that came first - “Lex Luthor Incorporated” 😉 not sure if I am joking or serious...

Serious enough. I’ve also had experiences elsewhere on the forum. The av is no joke either.

I think it is a joke. I'd say Trump is closer to the Kingpin or Luthor, but those villains are geniuses. Trump is really more the Dr. Evil type.

I keep going back to this post and I cannot figure out if this is a joke or you're serious. I'm really, really, really, really hoping it's a joke, but I'm terrified that it's not.

Spoilers Superman (2025) Grade and Discussion

Oh, I knew going in that Superman, Lois, Lex, and Krypto were going to be the main leads - the marketing and title alone were painfully obvious.;) But in terms of building a world, I felt like some moderately-detailed scenes may have been cut for time, especially concerning Hawkgirl and any one...

...time. Live and learn! Lombard was the last one Perry picked to go in Mr. Terrific's flying saucer right, who was left without a seatbelt? That got some laughs. I laughed. He was actually there, garnering laughs. Being the butt of a joke isn't the same as getting shafted. I guess mileage varies!

There was like one good joke from it. The conversation between Lois and Guy.

...Nobody's going to the movies? There's quips and humor, then there is Avengers Age of Ultron level quips and humor. Superman 2025, me personally not liking the movie aside, the jokes and humor are not at tiresome levels at all. The hypno glasses scene is a perfect example of humor done right.

We could get the same actress wearing chain mail bikini in 20+ years just like Logan did in Deadpool & Wolverine! :ouch:

To vegetarians and vegans: Would you eat Star Trek style replicated meat? Is it considered "vegan"?

It's true that you can modify the temperature of an object that comes out of the replicator. I guess that if the replicator assembles something that's a molecularly perfect roast at the moment of its creation but is exceedingly hot, it might burn as quickly as it would if you dropped a perfect...

To vegetarians and vegans: Would you eat Star Trek style replicated meat? Is it considered "vegan"?

The joke about Janeway burning a replicated roast suggests that the replicator does more than, well, replicate template items. It might have some kind of "rendering" ability that allows it to simulate the process of cooking a meal, for personalization based on a recipe or individual's cooking...
