The trouble I have with the Gorn ships is that they're basically all windows. In the cockpit scenes the heroes were basically surrounded by windows. And I believe it was an important plot point that they didn't have windows.

no as in it hasn't infiltrated SNW? that's promising and good. again I haven't really watched much of it, but i guess, from a life long Trek fan, it would be disappointing to see a franchise assimilate (sorry couldn't help myself!) into some "bad habits" of modern writing.

My headcanon is that details of the Dauntless project were in the datastream (to demonstrate what was being worked on to try to bring Voyager's crew home), and Arturis had sufficient resources to emulate (more or less) the look of it.

Honestly, I get the impression this film doesn't have any interest in connecting with Legacy so I wouldn't expect anything like that to be brought up. It clearly wants to be its own thing and dismiss the rest. Problem is I'm feeling pretty dismissive of the film as a result. Don't get me wrong...

The characters in SNW communicate in quips. Its sub Buffy and MCU level stuff.

Well when you think about it, the universal appeal of any show/movie etc...ultimately comes back to the characters. I think where the shift happened was when there was a plan of action and some of the characters might have expressed objection to the means or methods....that created the dramatic...
