So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

^ I've been hesitant to read "Titan" for those same reasons. There's a good amount of politicization in Mangel and Martin's "Enterprise" novels too, which never really appealed to me. It's a shame because the two of them write well together. Right now I'm reading "Provenance of Shadows." This...

So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

Mm, I'd totally forgotten about that. And it made such a good DS9 episode too!

Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

I'm just starting Kevin Ryan's "Errand of Vengeance" series, which follows Klingon agent 'Jon Anderson' aboard the Enterprise. A lot of the characters in the novels are minor ones from TOS, but as far as I know, Anderson never showed up on screen. How do you guys envision him?

So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

I've just started the "Errand of Vengeance" trilogy. So far I've been impressed--never had I heard of Kevin Ryan prior, but I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of his work. The novels follow a Klingon agent posing as a security officer aboard Kirk's Enterprise. Makes me wonder if...

Name the first ST novel you read

"Federation" by Garfield and Judith-Reeves Stevens was my first. Promptly read "Memory Alpha" afterward. A good start, I'd say.

    1990's TNG novel recommendations

I've not read a great deal of '90s Trek books, but I remember enjoying Greenberger's "Romulan Stratagem" being a good read. Felt very much like a TNG episode.

    Seven Deadly Sins Discuss/ Grade

There wasn't any mention of the Cardassians, no. I suspect that it could still have played a part, but much of the story suggested it was all about technology. Pretty practical really.

    Seven Deadly Sins Discuss/ Grade

I've yet to finish the entire book, but I have completed the first story, "The First Peer." If the rest of the shorts are of the same quality, then I'm eager to read them--might try and finish the set this weekend. Very crisp, fluid language and an excellent plot. I'd always wondered what the...

Vanguard Precipice- It's been read. Probable spoilers

No kidding? What was it like? I'm hoping Vanguard Station doesn't end up with the same fate. :p

Vanguard Precipice- It's been read. Probable spoilers

I kept seeing John McClane myself. Oh, and I had a question about Vanguard: is the station named after the satellite?

Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

@Rosalind I dunno, seems to me Xiong's been growing a little less wonderstruck as the series moves on. But I can see what you mean.

Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Finished “Precipice” not too long—great novel, by the way—and I came up with a few ideas of my own regarding casting. I’d cruised a bit through the forum and was plenty surprised to read the impressions of others. Even Mack’s inspirations seemed way different than anything I’d imagined! At any...

When Do the Writers Replace the Klingon D-7

I suspect that the D7 wasn’t truly phased out until somewhere in early TNG or Undiscovered Country. A whole crud load of Klingon ships were appointed the D7 designation. A bunch of them were variants of sorts—Kor’s cruiser was considered a D7 of Kolodoe class—so they could have been very long...

David Mack on his Vanguard, Typhon Pact, and nuTrek books...

I just finished "Precipice." That was one of my favorites! Was great to see Quin and Pennington back in the limelight. I spent some time later looking at the Trek book schedule--am I really to be led to believe there isn't another Vanguard planned for next year? Waiting until '11 for the next...

    Best Covers

"Vanguard" has some of the best covers I've seen lately. I'm also partial to "Warpath" and "Troublesome Minds."

So what are you reading now? Part 2

Mm, yes, thankfully there is. I've enjoyed "Vipers" so much that I think I'll try and procure the rest of the series and read them next. In my experience, the British Trek authors (however few there may be of them) consistently produce some really great Trek novels. Too bad James Swallow and Una...

So what are you reading now? Part 2

I finished "Death in Winter" yesterday and have just now started reading "Day of the Vipers." I can't say much for "Winter;" the plot and dialogue were very simple and a lot of the characters were awfully cliched, but it made for a decent, albeit pretty light read. Originally, I only picked...

Your favourite Trek author & why?

I have particularly fond memories of everything I've read by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, but I wouldn't say they're so much my "favorite" as just very highly regarded. They were, after all, the pair who got me into reading Trek in the first place. If I was made to cite just one author...

    The Two Romulan States

Thanks, Nasat. :) I've had "Death in Winter" and "Taking Wing" collecting dust on my shelves—now seems as good a time as any to crack 'em open.

    The Two Romulan States

After cruising through this thread and completing "A Singular Destiny," I've gotten newly interested in Donatra and the post-Nemesis Romulans. Are there a good set of books to explore if I want to read more about Donata?
