    What is DS9's Biggest Misfire?

I've seen this brought up occasionally over the years but, to my mind, the answer is clearly: no. Back in the season 6 occupation arc, when Odo and the female changeling last met, Odo was still trapped between his desire to return to the link and his desire to experience romance with Kira. All...

    New DS9 Documentary

I haven't been on these boards for a while, just stopped by to make sure the documentary was being discussed here. Not surprised that it is, of course. Over $480k now, so it's looking good for the final stretch goal!

Lindelof On Eve Scene (minor spoilers, hysteria, hyperbole)

I don't think so. Though I'm all for equal opportunity, so next time, perhaps Pine and/or Cumberbatch could be in their underwear at some point as well? Ultimately, part of the fun of this type of heightened reality is the sex appeal factor. I'm more concerned with the female characters having...

STID "tracking" for $85-90 million opening [U.S. box office]

The '09 trailer is exceptionally good, no doubt about it. I didn't think the trailers for this film provided a very strong hook for the movie. It's hard to measure the impact of that kind of thing, obviously. It's partly that Cumberbatch was featured, but not the character he was playing. And...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

LoL. I think "standard orbit" has gone the way of ethical debates in the Captain's ready room ;) I must say, on a similar topic, that one of the greatest things about this era of Trek is the fancier window/viewer combo thing. I always hated the viewscreen.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Admittedly, one reason I like the Section 31 concept is the challenge it provides to the main idealist and rather utopian tendencies of Star Trek. DS9 was very good at that kind of thing. Here the idea is introduced and dismissed a bit lightly, it's another one of those aspects of the movie...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Visually, I thought the film was amazing, yeah.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

True. Anyway, I don't think that matters very much. I didn't even see TWoK until, I dunno... maybe 10 or 15 years after its release, but the scene still works as a scene, the aftermath of it is still poigant within the context of that movie. I didn't feel a very strong emotional connection...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I've certainly heard that many times from fans. I've never really connected with it that way, but quite a few people do.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

I think the scene is truthful in a way that most of the movie is not. It's not necessarily flattering to him, but that's why it stands out. Basically it exposes a part of the character's personality you might not otherwise see.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

That is a good scene. The movie as a whole is often laughably bad, though, imo. In the next movie, somebody else is going to need their pain lol... Maybe Sulu? :) McCoy: We have medicine for that. Sulu: I need my pain.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Agreed wholeheartedly. I do like all the characters, but too many dudes :techman:

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

"Hardcore" fandom represents only a tiny percentage of "fans," though. Not to mention that every fandom, of any kind, has the same mentality. The discussions on the BBS, for example, are no different from any place else where fans of something congregate. The majority of any given audience...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Well, it's interesting because I guess the mixture of perspectives was one thing they were consciously playing around with by having the film intersect with TWoK at a key moment. For some people, it's completely new. For others, it might seem new at first, but their friend recognizes it, or...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Well, of course some of the people in the seats are already fans, and some are not. As a literal distinction, it exists. But that is not the point JarodRussell was making. What he's saying is that there is no easy way to distinguish between aspects of the film that connect with those two groups...

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Well, they're certainly part of it. These movies are fan service overload. I have several friends who are big Trek geeks, but I'm the only one who ever posts about it online. And we have different opinions about the movie and stuff. Imagine that ;) It's mainly online in threads like this where...

Wow, voting C- really sucks lol, I never would have known :wtf:

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

Well, that's one way to look at it. I wonder if we could come up with an equally extreme metaphor for each voting block? ;) Are B- voters being callously indifferent to that same newborn child? :vulcan:

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS - Grading & Discussion [SPOILERS]

One other point on this topic: I guess I'm not sure what people mean, exactly, when they talk about something being "cerebral." I mean, is Don Quixote cerebral? Is Hamlet? I choose these examples because they are stories that have been massively influential, shaped our view of what it means to...
