Re: Scathing review of the movie
I can't belive how close this is to my original review. I've said it from day one, Paramount sold us out! They took our brain food and replaced with processed junk, supersized. I don't understand why so many "long time" fans can't see this.
Like most (though not all) of the characters in Star Trek there was not enough depth to Nero. However, I think the character was effective and far more intense and believeable than any of the "good guys". Now that I'm thinking about it there is such an incredible contrast between the two sides...
Re: OK, Star Trek cinephiles - Who would your Dream Director be for XI
Steven Soderbergh.
I'd love to see what he could do with Star Trek. He's shown an affiinity for strong character development, intelligent and subtle humor, and excellent cinematography and writing. He's got broad range and...
I think aside from the lack of a strong underlying theme, STXI is the missing intensity of previous ST films and other high caliber Sci-Fi. The potential is all there but they decided to gloss over the deeper issues.
I have a problem with the style of this movie as much as anything else...
The discussions in threads like this are why enjoy posting and reading this forum so much.
Guys, I LOVE Star Trek. It wouldn't be to much of a stretch to say that it's had an influence on my life, and I consider myself a well adjusted successful career and family man. I don't live Star Trek...
So there has been quite a bit of spirited debate between the supporters and detractors about old vs new Trek so I offer this thread as a new POV on the subject. We all know STXI's budget and that most of that money was used to create the visual elements that have made this film appealing to a...
Ok, since I am in the minority and will continue to draw alot of fire for my opinion on this film and what it's done to this franchise let me say this: I was very optomistic and open minded about this film. I was initally awed and inspired by the opening sequence, even with it's flaws.
As I...
Cut the budget and just WRITE something worth watching.
I'm of the opinion that they could've cut 1/2 of the budget, and thus most of the beautiful but ultimately pointless CGI, and just written something fresh and compelling and logical. A strong character driven story that preserved the core...
It's good to see some sense returning to this message board, even if its' in the minority.
I predict a Star Wars episode effect eventually overtaking all the current hysteria, though the post high fall probably won't be as dramatic.
Rigth now most fans (and that included me for a short...
Re: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes...
I just can't see a television series as sustainable based on the foundation this "movie" has created. To attract and keep the audience that this film has inspired would unsustainable. The pace is too frenetic.
Besides, if JJ Abrams were producing he'd be...
I know I am in the minority. My intent is not to just 'stir the pot'. I've enjoyed Star Trek as much as anyone, which is why I have such a strong opinion about this movie. So give me a chance and hear me out.
This post is an extension of a thread I started at Rotten Tomatoes ST XI forum, which...
I think the classic definition of science fiction as original adapted by Carl Sagan, Issac Asimov, Dan Simmons, Gene Roddenberry and other great authors of the last 50 years has for the most part been lost or abused by modern filmakers.
Let's look at the definition of "science fiction"...
This is a good point that I hadn't considered. It would be very interesting to see where money was allocated for production, distribution, and marketing.
I've gotten the feeling that much money was spent creating "buzz" for some time leading up to the release. This of course targeted the mass...
I will. However, I won't abandon the last 40 years of the Start Trek universe. There is too much investment to walk away. Unfortunately I'll have to live with the present for now.
BTW, you don't sound as harsh. I know I'm going to evoke a visceral response from fans who have embraced the new...
I couldn't agree more. In fact the character development is a disaster. Read this post for more on this subject:

Well, I tried to start a similar thread and it got moved so here is my original post as a response:

Not great or good, it was terrible... and here is why in detail.
