Probably commanding the Farragut instead of the Enterprise made that timeline Kirk a little less bold. You'd have to rein in your instinct to do battle when the ship you're commanding isn't the biggest and best ship in the fleet.
One could also argue that the Kirk we saw in TOS prior to Balance...
Future Pike already explained this. No matter what they do, it goes shitty. Maybe if Pike resigns it has some unforeseen negative consequences on Spock.

I don't typically cry at TV deaths because they're usually not all that well done. This one was, and it was earned. I really liked Hemmer. He had some of the best scenes on the show.
I wonder if the writers knew he was so likeable before they killed him, or if it was precisely why they killed...
I think there's something interesting with that. He says he is grappling with the possibility that his knowledge of the future will affect his decision making. But I wonder if the knowledge of what will happen to him a decade from now is making him re-evaluate his life.

You should probably find a new genre of television to watch then. I'm sure it should be easy to find something that caters to your non-wokeness, in this day and age.
Somebody else said the show feels better than what this episode reflected and I agree with that.
