"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

Beam Me Up, Sulu | Official Trailer In 1985, George Takei joined a group of dedicated Star Trek fans to create a student film deep in the California forest—only for the footage to mysteriously vanish. Nearly 40 years later, Beam Me Up, Sulu unearths this forgotten moment, revealing not just...

Could Star Trek V been saved?

I'm a firm believer that it could be saved. A few of the awful scenes like Scotty bumping his head and getting knocked out could easily be removed and not affect the story at all. Replacing all of the starship VFX would be great.

    STAR TREK V DIRECTOR´S CUT

I don't know if we will ever see a Director's Cut, per say, as Shatner may not have the time to dedicate towards something like that, but it would be nice to see a Special Edition approved by Shatner with new VFX put in place. I could see that happening for Paramount+.

CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar 2 - Electric Boogaloo-Fanboys gone WILD-too many hyphens

Mark Edward Lewis' contribution to "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" was that he did a voice-over dub for the actor who played Captain Frame (originally filmed in the 1980s), as he had passed away before he had a chance to record his ADR. Mark also recorded the talented Becky Woods to dub Lt. Cmdr...

CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar 2 - Electric Boogaloo-Fanboys gone WILD-too many hyphens

I have to wonder.... how hard would it have been to film a few shots of actors dressed up as Klingons? See a Klingon Captain on one of the other ships, or a gunner manning weapons? All this short film does is show CGI Klingon battle cruisers in battle. It dehumanizes the enemy, and gives no real...

Any Fan Films in the Early TMP Era?

The fan film "Yorktown: A Time to Heal" starring George Takei takes place about 2 years before TMP.

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

Oh, there are similarities. Some are story driven, some are tech. When the USS Intrepid was destroyed, Spock felt it even though he was lightyears away from the Vulcan crew. Ben experiences something very similar with the destruction of Alderaan.

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

He isn't talking about TMP. George Lucas was a fan of Star Trek. Star Trek became HUGE in the 70s thanks to syndication. There are many similarities between the two projects. I have no doubt that the popularity of the Star Trek TV show helped propel Star Wars, and the success of Star Wars led to...

Spoilers Star Trek: Picard 3x10 - "The Last Generation"

Wesley showing up in uniform didn't bother me at all, because it was Riker and Troi's wedding and the Starfleet officers were expected to wear their dress uniforms. It isn't uncommon for someone who retired from the military to wear their dress uniform on special occasions like weddings. I just...

"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

No, we wouldn't want to do that. That was already done in the New Voyages fan-film many years ago.

    Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Well, that was disappointing. What is the point of having a timer for when your site will go live, if you open up 90 minutes earlier than what you are advertising?

"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

I was happy with the way the VFX turned out for 'Yorktown'. Yes, they are CGI models, but the 8mm film grain and blurring of the footage helped blend it in well with the live action footage. The TMP Director's Cut also used a CGI Enterprise in a few scenes, and I felt the film grain used there...

"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

Yorktown wasn't made to look like a 1970s film or TV show. It was shot in the mid-80s, when TNG was in production. It takes place after the original series. It didn't need to look like the 60s show in its execution, even though the bridge is a replica. The film has it's own unique look, and I...

"Yorktown: A Time to Heal" - Official thread for the Sulu fan film!

I hear what you are saying. At an early stage, it was decided that CGI models would be used, with film grain added to them. Using (and creating from scratch) physical models would have been a challenge, especially with all these ships being so unique to the film. Having said that, with the film...

Haha... I tried to only use names once, to introduce characters to the audience. Definitely tried not to overdo it in the film.

Why does ENT hate Vulcans so much?

Many Vulcans came across as jerks in TOS, TNG, DS9, etc. Spock is universally loved by fans, and I think when people see Vulcans not acting like Spock, they feel it isn't right. People seem to forget that many Vulcans were mean to Spock. I thought Enterprise handled them quite well.
