Pretty much all TNG for me. These ones just cheer me right up no matter what, though I’ll pick a different flavor depending on what kind of down I’m feeling.
“Yesterday’s Enterprise”
“BOBW 1”
“The Inner Light”
“Conundrum”
“Cause and Effect”
Well I'm a little late to the party, but I finally had time to pick this up and I loved it!
As I was expecting, the 2024 story was probably my favorite. It's just such a fun idea to see a years-later investigation into the absurdity of a comedy movie's plot through a believable "real" person's...
Wow, that blurb for the 2024 portion of the book is both the coolest and cleverest idea for a Trek story I've heard of in a long time! I've been out of the TrekLit loop for way too long plus I'm usually not a TOS novel guy...but I think I'll grab this one. I've always enjoyed Greg's work in the...
:techman: I must be about the same age as you, this was the first Trek film I saw in theaters too.
I totally agree with you on the cinematography and the expanded bridge. The ship looked great with the darker, more dynamic lighting, especially in the Ten Forward scene. I get why they wanted to...
For some reason I love "Gambit" from S7, but Troi's big scene towards the beginning where she's yelling at Riker about grief and selfishness REALLY doesn't work. Sirtis admirably goes for *something*, but doesn't make the landing at all. Oh well, skip that scene and get to the point: a prototype...
I couldn't remember if I tried, as it's been a part of my life since I was 0 years old. (I was born the same year a couple people stole some whales.) While TNG is my favorite, I love most of the other series too and always will. Bottom line: (mostly) great writing, (mostly) great acting...
I'm a fan of the GEN Enterprise-D bridge with the bonus consoles and dark lighting. I know they rushed the movie to capitalize on TNG's popularity back then, but I think they did a pretty good job transforming TV sets into film sets given the time frame they had.
Wasn't Greg Cox's Q Continuum trilogy originally released as part of the "numbered" TNG series in in the late 90s? Then they did an omnibus version collecting the three books a couple years later. It was a terrific adventure story starring Picard and Q as I recall, highly recommended.
I had to look up the title since it's been almost 20 (!) years, but I remember The Sundered by Martin & Mangels being a cool Excelsior story featuring Capt. Sulu and his first officer Chekov.
I had forgotten about the Sombrero era, now de-lurking for 10 seconds to thank you both.
Anyways I liked that line too, and overall loved the episode. The first laid-back, fun, lightweight Trek episode I can remember since the Berman years probably. Sometimes we just need a "Take Me Out...
I think "Gambit" is kind of like a precursor to the big Voyager "movie of the week" events like "Dark Frontier." I actually think the whole thing would have worked better as one double-length episode since the cliffhanger is pretty lame...will the Enterprise be destroyed?!? Picard as Galen vs...
